POSITION TITLE: Middle School Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS: Arkansas Counseling License appropriate for grades 7 and 8
REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 205 days with benefits provided according to Siloam Springs School Board policies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, community members and other stakeholders as advocates of students to meet their academic, social and emotional needs
- Be an advocate for students while working with parents, teachers and administration.
- Work with families to seek and refer appropriate local, regional, state and national agencies and assist with finding resources as needed to ensure that students physical, emotional and behavioral needs are met
- Work collectively to maintain the master schedule in eSchool and to identify areas of improvement to meet the educational needs of our students
- Process schedule changes as needed to accommodate student needs
- Analyze data to determine program effectiveness and identify program needs
- Analyze data to determine appropriate Tiers of intervention
- Willingness to work collaboratively on teams and school initiatives (building, across building and district level)
- Coordinate with district counselors to provide services meeting transition goals and alignment of initiatives and policies
- Provide ongoing individual and small group counseling as needed
- Desires to grow professionally
- Abide by the Code of Ethics and protects the confidentiality of student records and information in accordance to laws and policies
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Remain current in educational practices including those specific to the school counselor’s role.
