Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Security Officer for the Fox Developmental Center located in Dwight, Illinois to perform security functions on an assigned shift. Performs highly responsible and technical fire prevention and safety duties. Patrols buildings and grounds checking for breaches of security and unsafe conditions. Inspects fire equipment and fire alarm system to determine that it is functioning properly. Participates in training of facility personnel in methods of reporting fires, evacuating buildings and the use of such apparatus including fire extinguishers and fire blankets. Administers first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), initial fire response and other emergency procedures; completes required incident reports.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs security functions on an assigned shift.
- Performs highly responsible and technical fire prevention and safety duties.
- Completes required incident reports including reports required for Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Inspector General, Work Place Violence and other reports required for various incidents.
- Operates communication systems including radio, telephone, and computer.
- Safeguards that all visitors check in at the appropriate checkpoint.
- Completes fire watch protocol during periods when safety system is not in operation.
- Reviews and maintains file for IL444-4042 Insurance and Driver’s License Verification Card on all employees.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
- Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of experience in the use of security enforcement practices and techniques.
- Two (2) years of experience providing initial responses to security breaches and safety hazards.
- Two (2) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- One (1) year of basic proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office with basic computer skills.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to complete security training, follow written procedures and instructions and to organize observed facts into activity and incident reports.
- Requires ability to climb stairs, and physically restrain and control individuals.
- Requires the ability to acquire and maintain CPR certificate.
- Requires ability to become OIG rule 50.3 certified within 90 days of employment.
- Requires ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to serve on-call on a rotation basis.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
