Security Supervisor Job at CentraState Healthcare System
Under the direction of the Security Manager, supervises the day to day operation of the security department in a manner consistent with departmental goals and objectives. Overall primary function is the general welfare and safety of patients, visitors, and employees, while promoting and maintaining a positive work environment with security staff.
Responsibilities:- Provides work direction, supervision, and support to all Security Department staff and associated vendors/contractors. Ensures staff follows all policies, procedures, code of conduct, and system creed.
- Communicates with and notifies department management regarding all required assessments, concerns, information, issues, and updates. Meets assigned deadlines and provides progress and status updates.
- Promotes, maintains, and monitors an approachable, helpful, positive and professional work environment with Security Department staff as well the staff’s interaction with each other and with all employees, patients, and visitors.
- Facilitates, encourages, and applies changes in the department and the staff’s corresponding adherences according to the guidance of departmental management.
- Supervises and directs (in coordination with clinical staff) during patient management situations and in crisis/emergent situations. Determines patient intervention methods and assess/reports use of force. Directs Fire Response Team. Acts as liaison with Law Enforcement Agencies as contact/response. And communicates with Nursing Supervision and/or Administrator on call as necessary.
- Trains and orients all new security staff. Provides retraining for current staff as needed or identified when there are deficiencies/concerns. Responsible to ensure all security staff members are up to date with their mandatory annual training requirements and associated documentation.
- Completes investigations, situational assessments, and incident reports. Assists staff with and ensures the gathering of information, investigation, and completion of Incident Reports, Security Response Records (SSR), and any/all associated and/or assigned documents.
- Patrols campus, including but not limited to regular tours of the facility, freestanding buildings, and parking lots.
- Responsible to ensure all shifts are adequately staffed. Ensures all security posts, assignments, zones and watches are covered, effective, and completed as directed/procedure. Responsible for ensuring information in API regarding scheduling, ESL, UPTO, PTO, No-lunch, swipe requests, etc. are entered and accurate.
- Conducts, evaluates, and completes Monthly Fire Drills, Monthly Fire Extinguisher Inspections, Monthly Exit Light Inspections, and actively participates and attends two (2) yearly Disaster Drills.
- Monitors, reports, evaluates and addresses staff performance. Completes orientation checklists, probationary and annual appraisals and competencies.
- Maintains appropriate inventory for all Security Equipment including security issued master keys, vehicle keys, radios, restraints, gloves, PPE, safety vests, traffic cones, etc.
- Monitors the operation, authorized and proper use, status/condition, and maintenance of access control, camera monitoring, elopement, ID badging, infant abduction, visitor identification, and systems and/or software.
- Monitors staff communication/dispatch and use of Push to Talk/Radio equipment to ensure efficiency, professionalism, and HIPPA requirements.
- Oversees special functions such as parking details, traffic controls, events, etc.
- Actively participates in the all daily (on-duty) staff huddles, department meetings, assigned committees and/or groups, to include the Violence Prevention Committee and ED Patient Experience. Reports at daily safety huddle on weekends and as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Work Experience:
Three (3) years’ security experience in a healthcare setting required.
Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid NJ driver's license
Must obtain the following certifications:
Supervisory level IAHSS certification within 1 year of date of hire, and kept current thereafter;
Must complete assigned education provided by Crisis Prevention Institute, which will include Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor Certification.
FEMA Independent Study Courses within 1 year of date of hire:
- IS-00200.c: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
- IS-906: Workplace Security Awareness
- IS-907: Active Shooter: What You Can Do
Other certifications/trainings as assigned.
