Job Description
The Senior Negotiator I negotiates various contracts with a primary focus on industry related sponsored project agreements. Works with sponsors to address terms and conditions, including rights to technical data and intellectual property, publication rights, institutional contributions, payment terms etc. Works with minimal supervision to mitigate risk and ensure that project agreements are in compliance with the following: applicable laws (state and federal), policies and guidelines, Texas A&M University System, and Agency requirements, and sponsor guidelines as applicable. Work collaboratively with the Office Technology Transfer and Commercialization (TEES and System), Office of General Counsel, System Real Estate, TEES Risk and Compliance office, TEES Administration, and other offices as appropriate. The Senior Negotiator I assists with training and process development.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzing contractual language and, as necessary, drafts alternative language without supervision. Drafts contracts. Determines areas of risk for the System and Agency in addition to providing potential solutions.
- Communicate with Principal Investigators, sponsors, and vendors to acquire relevant facts for accurate contract revision.
- Coordination of researchers and departmental personnel throughout negotiations utilizing both effective written and verbal communication.
- Facilitate individual and collaborative meetings/interaction with faculty and sponsors as needed.
- Ability to research and apply federal, state, and local laws and regulations including knowledge of federal flow through procedures and the Federal Acquisition Regulations.
- Assist with training and process development
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience:
- Four years of related experience in contract negotiation and/or research administration
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Federal grant and contract regulations and practical application of current research administration issues.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as proficiency using word processing, spreadsheets and database applications with good attention to detail and ability to work productively as part of a team.
