Senior EHS Manager Job at Monogram Foods
Monogram Food Solutions has a new, exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety professional with a multi-site background. This position will be based out of our largest production plant, currently in the process of additional growth, in Martinsville, VA.
This role will have responsibility for all environmental and safety functions for the division, including the plant in Martinsville, VA; our plant in Chandler, MN; and one of our newest locations in Dickson, TN. This role will also include any potential realignments and acquisitions within the Snacks Division. This position will support and partner with the Martinsville EHS Specialist, as well as manage two additional plant EHS Managers for the other locations.
This role, while being based in and with hands on responsibility for Martinsville, will have routine travel to the other sites. This position directs the safety and environmental programs and policies to ensure the facility is operating to standard while ensuring compliance with company, federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
The successful candidate will be working understanding of industrial wastewater, environmental permitting, and full safety compliance including team-member empowered safety success.
Organizational Relationship:
Reports to Corporate Director of Employee Safety & Health, in a matrix reporting structure with corporate environmental, as well as plant operations. This role, in addition to being responsible for the Martinsville Complex and the remainder of the Snacking Division, is part of a 16 person EHS team supporting the Monogram sites and Support Center across the U.S.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs the site-specific safety and environmental programs for the Martinsville facility and the Snacking Division, and ensures these programs are reviewed annually and updated as necessary.
- Provides leadership for all environmental and safety projects for the Snacking Division.
- Ability to drive the management of the entire EHS process through our 3rd party EHS data management system.
- Availability as necessary in reciprocal partnership with other regional Monogram facilities.
- Be visible with core Support Center team in continuous improvement and development of existing and new Monogram corporate EHS policies.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable Monogram, environmental and safety regulatory requirements.
- Lead and assist with annual Site Safety Plan development and execution for all Division sites.
- Provide nurturing leadership and guidance to Snacking division EHS team members to ensure their sustained energy and engagement for career growth and success within the Monogram organization, including tools for skills and career growth.
- Provide technical leadership to and maintain compliance with all permits and environmental plans throughout the Snacking division.
- Drives environmental strategy to lead site sustainability efforts.
- Provide leadership and support for team-based safety and environmental steering teams.
- Promote culture of inclusion of all team members in environmental and safety activities and priorities.
- Provides key participation and leadership to Process Safety Management compliance and sustainment for sites with PSM processes in the Division.
- Provides visible leadership in identifying, implementing, and measuring environmental sustainment opportunities.
- Provide facilitation to the implementation and sustainment of ANSI Z10 Safety Management System.
- As a member of the Monogram EHS team, in partnership with the other site EHS team members develop and audit Monogram environmental and safety corporate policies.
- Maintain a visible presence across all operating shifts on the plant floor providing assistance, coaching and feedback to site operations. Audits facility to identify and mitigate hazardous safety, health, or environmental conditions.
- Analyze incidents and incident statistics to ensure necessary corrective actions/preventive measures have been determined and are in place.
- Manages workers compensation claims, liaison to 3rd party claims managers, ensures necessary reports are filed, tracking and documentation requirements followed, employee restrictions and ramp in/work hardening requirements are followed.
- Provide/support new hire orientation for all safety and environmental topics and ensures all annual compliance training occurs, is understood and documented.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related science field preferred, or equivalent work experience
- 20+ years minimum of environmental, health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge to provide independent leadership of environmental responsibilities for the division.
- Thorough working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental and safety requirements and the ability to ensure sustained compliance throughout the division
- Understanding of engagement-based Safety Management Systems (i.e. ANSI Z10, ISO 45001, OSHA SHARP/VPP, etc…)
- Outstanding verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills

- Ability to drive team member led environmental and safety culture
- High level of interpersonal, coaching and leadership skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
- Possess or ability to earn RSO certification
- Possess or plan to earn professional safety / environmental certifications (CSP, SMS, CEP, CIH, CHMM, etc..)
