Position Summary:


McCarthy’s Preconstruction and Estimating team is looking to add a Senior Estimator to our St Louis, MO office. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for equipment installation, piping, and/or steel erection self-perform estimate development and procurement when subcontracting the work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop conceptual and detailed estimates for equipment installation and steel erection self-perform and subcontracted work.
  • Develop labor productivity, contingency and escalation analyses.
  • Develop budgets at early stages of design, relying on historical reference points and communication with designers and consultants.
  • Identify, evaluate, and communicate project risks.
  • Review projects for cost-effectiveness and assess value alternatives.
  • Analyze the development of documents and estimate the associated changes.
  • Participate in scope of work development and subcontract agreements to ensure projects are fully coordinated between all disciplines.
  • Recommend a procurement strategy and manage the bid solicitation process.
  • Lead the internal review process for responsible work.
  • Assist in owner presentations.
  • Maintain historical cost information.
  • Aid field operations with change order pricing if needed.
  • Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to maintain a competitive advantage for McCarthy.
  • Develop and communicate qualifications for the basis of the estimate to internal and external team members.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related major and/or 5+ years of experience.
  • Advanced interpretation of drawings and specifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of LSUM, Design Build, and GMP procurement processes.
  • Experience working on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience with large-scale projects with emphasis on highly complex industrial projects.
  • Estimating experience with both self-perform and subcontracted work.
  • Ability to synthesize cost data from a wide range of sources into a conceptual estimate.
  • Working knowledge of estimating technology and tools such as On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Building Information Modeling (BIM), WinEst, Assemble, Revit and Bluebeam or related software.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to build trust and influence others.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a "value added" approach to estimating.
  • Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
