Role and Responsibilities
The Senior Manager, SEA Mobile Business Strategy – Competitive Intelligence will lead the Mobile Business Strategy team’s competitive intelligence and response efforts, while also supporting broader Business strategy efforts. This position will be crucial to Samsung’s ability to set its short, medium, and long-term course in the highly dynamic electronics industry.
Competitive intelligence responsibilities would include:
  • Tracking and analyzing competitor developments (e.g., product positioning and launches, go-to-market or channel strategies, etc.) and highlighting potential impact on Samsung
  • Devising and modeling plausible ‘scenarios’ for future competitor moves and implications for Samsung (e.g., potential impact of the competitor with Samsung Smart TV portfolio; impact of new competitor smartphone launch and action plan to respond)
  • Advising senior management on response options and coordinating follow-up actions
  • Scope of work would focus on mobile product category (phone, tablet, wearables) but could include other parts of Samsung’s portfolio (TV, home appliance, smart home, etc.)
In addition to competitive intelligence responsibilities, the Senior Manager would support broader Mobile Business strategy efforts, delivering recommendations to senior management and helping to coordinate strategic projects across US business units.
Key activities and responsibilities across Mobile Business Strategy include:
  • Leading and participating in CEO projects and Mobile Business strategy & operational initiatives spanning growth, go-to-market, and operational performance enhancement by directly scoping, initiating, planning, leading, and executing strategy projects
  • Providing in-depth strategic insights and thought leadership on electronics industry, channel, and consumer trends to CEO and top management
  • Developing business cases and strategic options based on industry insights, internal capabilities, financial models, and ROI analysis to support planning initiatives
  • Facilitating mid-to-long-term strategy for sales and marketing in the US and Canada markets
  • Developing new business models & partnerships that will drive the growth of business in North America
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Competitive & Market Intelligence: Provide CEO timely and insightful analysis on critical competitive threats, movements and strategies with implications and recommended action plans
  • Business Strategy Support: Offer ad-hoc support, analysis, and recommendations for CEO and Samsung senior executives in response to strategic developments or other necessities internally and externally
  • Division Strategy Support: Serve as advisory resource for specific divisions or cross-divisional initiatives, aimed at setting strategic (multi-year) direction and planning
  • Cross-divisional T/F: Lead and facilitate cross-divisional task forces on key cross- strategic issues based on senior management request
  • Cross-div Meeting / Workshops: Lead / help organizing cross-divisional strategy conference, meetings and workshops and ensure successful outcomes, follow-up

  • Timeliness of insights: Speed of delivery of insights from competitor announcements and events, ad hoc analyses and issues

  • Effective navigation and project management: Ability to bring in and network with internal executive team and key managers from across divisions to drive results
  • Business Impact: Measurable and clear impact of recommendations and initiatives

Skills and Qualifications
Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree and MBA, preferably from a top 10 university.
  • 8+ years of professional experience, with successful track record for growth and leadership.
  • Experience with a high performing consulting firms, or in other closely relevant areas like Mobile Business strategy, competitive intelligence, or marketing
  • Advanced ability to quickly capture, understand, synthesize, summarize, and draw insights from constantly changing information and to effectively communicate those summaries and insights to management
  • Strong project management skills, with ability to efficiently scope and execute concrete strategic initiatives, and lead multi-functional teams with diverse interests toward share objectives
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: information sharing, networking, influencing, leadership, conflict resolution
  • Strong sense of urgency and speed to action
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office suites, particularly PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
Strongly preferred, but not required:
  • Deep knowledge of competitors, landscape and dynamics in wireless communications, consumer electronics, and/or IT industries is a plus, but not a requirement
  • Strong understanding of global/multi-national corporations’ organizational, culture, and business objectives with regional focus in North America
  • Familiarity with new growth competency areas, including software, web-based services, etc.

  • Under very little direct supervision with a high level of responsibility to apply general policies and guidelines where decisions are seldom monitored and consequences of decisions adversely affect operating results and management decisions. Complete access to confidential company data where disclosure may jeopardize the company’s competitive position.

Demonstrated ability to interact at all levels within customer's organizations. The ability to negotiate with and convince others, in a potentially adversarial environment, including customer leadership, directors and managers with opposing views to accept/approve plans, technical and project recommendations. The ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple strategic programs and simultaneous performance objectives. The ability to write, read, interpret, explain and act based on a thorough understanding of technical documents, engineering materials and contracts or related documents. Ability to make professional sales and business presentations in writing, through email, reports, or orally, including complex business and technical matters to an audience of high technical skills, management and operational experience. Ability to support a cross-functional Samsung team to achieve customer contracted objectives and specific team goals within established time frames and requirements. Assist in and if needed direct the Samsung team in lab and field trials related to introduction of products sold to the customer.
