HJF is seeking a Senior Research Pathologist to support the Tissue program of the Joint Pathology Cener, Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the JPC.

This position may provide direction for the execution of clinical research programs and may also be referred as the PI or site lead or have a role as an Assistant or Associate Professor.

Primary responsibilities will include continuing assessment and monitoring of tissue collection methods and histologic attributes of collected tissue through established quality control procedure. Continuing monitoring and archiving of pathologic and associated clinical data of Tissue Repository specimens in support of research protocols and other repository activities. Responsible for initiating searches of available databases, identifying and procuring appropriate specimens from the Tissue Repository. Essential duties include review and validation of diagnoses and other available clinical parameters as well as preparation of specimen for appropriate processing of specimens in preparation for histology and molecular laboratory analysis, preparation of Biobank medical data documents such as medical abstracts and quality control records for CCB patients and associated biosamples. Serves as an advisor to researchers seeking to establish research project using Tissue Repository samples or data. Oversees establishment and execution of special research projects in which Tissue Repository is directed to engage. Reports directly to Director for Research, Education and Repository Operations.

Responsibilities:
Essential Job Duties
  • Initiates appropriate search criteria for research efforts and other Tissue Repository efforts as prioritized by the Director.
  • Reviews tissue samples and slides to validate diagnoses and other clinical parameters and to ensure adequacy of tissue for research and other efforts.
  • Prepares all specimens for histological or molecular analysis.
  • Prepares, submits, and reviews all digital images as necessary to support above efforts. As needed, will annotate slides in support of histologic or molecular analysis.
  • Responsible for accurate entry of all pathology-related data into the appropriate databases and datasheets; prepares reports and at the request of the Director, Biobank.
  • Advises the Director on issues related to use of Tissue Repository materials for research and other efforts.
  • As needed participates in development of policies and procedures related to Tissue Repository efforts.
  • Maintains positive relationships with allied pathology units to include WRNMMC DPALS.
Nonessential Job Duties
  • Attends scientific, clinical and administrative meetings of the Joint Pathology Center and as otherwise directed.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensite knowledge and expertise in working with breast related diseases.
  • Knowledge of baisc laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, ability to handle multiple tasks.
Qualifications:
Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in an office, clinic, or hospital setting.

Education and Experience
  • Doctoral Degree- MD
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensure to practice medicine within the continental United States; Board certified or board eligible for certification in the specialty associated with the clinical research program.
