The Senior SATCOM Systems Engineer will provide Systems Engineering Analysis Support for the Evolved Strategic SATCOM (ESS) program office. This role requires experience and knowledge with SATCOM Systems (e.g. Gateways, transponders, link budgets, etc.), dealing with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), and Digital Engineering. This position will provide acquisition support to the Government to prepare / respond to Request for Proposal (RFP) development, tech evals, prototype down selects, and other analysis roles as required by the customer. The engineer shall have experience with other satellite systems, ops centers, and ground systems. The successful candidate is responsible for the following related tasks:
- Experience with satellite operations and payloads.
- Strong understanding of operational mission satellite systems.
- Understand Ground and Space C2 concepts and applications to support the mission integration between space domain mission areas.
- Coordinate with Space mission partners in developing a sustainable war-fighting architecture to improve decision timeliness.
- Develop Mission Integration transition plans to include, meeting mission partner needs, supporting special studies, developing FYDP planning.
- Utilize advanced knowledge of aerospace engineering to inform senior level decision points.
- Participate in ESS reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents.
- Review technical specifications, design plans, project criteria, and the team work for compliance to articulated standards while ensuring data integrity and validity.
- Supports analysis of prototypes and deployment of software-intensive mission systems.
- Assists Government in architecting Strategic SATCOM systems Ground Reference Architecture (GRA).
- Assists in developing acquisition strategies to field a fully integrated ground system to meet milestones.
- Ensures the discoverability, fusion, and dissemination of support contractor developed data, reports, and products.
- Review and analyze design models and diagrams using model-based systems engineering tools and practices.
- Leads briefings and discussions with program management team and other essential personnel.
- Collaborates with diverse team of Government, SETA, Industry Partners, Operators, and FFRDC.
- Other Duties as required by the Government Lead.
- Travel 30%.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field. Master’s (Preferred).
- 10+ years of actively working in DoD space operations with a strong satellite experience.
- Experience in developing and defining Space Enterprise architectures, requirements, and capabilities.
- 7+ years of Space Systems Engineering and experience with operations at Schriever SFB, CO and/or Los Angeles AFB, CA (Preferred).
- Working knowledge of government contracts and acquisition processes.
- Experience in writing requirements documents, technical documents, memorandums etc.
- Active TS/SCI clearance is required to be considered for this role.
- Ability to work with cross mission programs (Ground systems, Satellite programs, and networks etc.).
- Ability to effectively communicate, present, and lead discussions with senior military and civilian leadership.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with attention to detail.
