A Brief Overview
As a Bioinformatics Senior Staff Scientist you will be responsible for developing and maintaining Next Generation Sequencing data analysis workflows for use in a molecular genetic testing setting. This includes algorithms development as well as workflow/pipeline design. You will develop and implement bioinformatics tools for test development and validation, generate test validation results, and integrate data for review. You will work closely with the software engineering team to integrate analysis pipelines into production systems and automate tests and benchmarking analysis.

What you will do
- Develop algorithms and tools for analysis, benchmarking, and quality assessment of sequencing data
- Develop and improve end-to-end genomics pipelines for clinical genetic testing
- Work closely with the genomic scientists and genetic counselors to identify possible improvements to our analysis pipelines that will improve the variants filtering and prioritization
- Stay up to date with the latest developments and best practices of NGS data analysis in genetic testing
- Maintain a high profile in the genomics and bioinformatics community through publications, conference presentations and collaborations
- Provide mentorship and guidance for junior members of the team
Education Qualifications
- Graduate Degree (Ph.D./M.S,) in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience Qualifications
- Ph.D. plus 3 years or M.S. plus 6 years of experience developing pipelines and algorithms for computational biology, genomics, and clinical diagnostics
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Significant experience in algorithmic techniques common to bioinformatics (e.g., dynamic programming and graph algorithms), machine learning and statistical analysis methods (e.g., Bayesian inference, Hidden Markov Models, Principal Component Analysis)
- Experience with NGS data and best practices for germline sequencing
- Experience with developing vectorized code and multi-threading
- Expertise in bioinformatics resources and tools such as BLAST, BWA, GATK, dbGaP, NCBI, EBI, UCSC genome browser, etc.
- Experience using public annotation sources such as ClinGen, ClinVar, HGMD, cbGap, EVS, 1000 Genomes, gnomAD, and DGV
- Proficient in Python, competent in C++, Java, SQL, and R
- Experience in Unix/Linux and cloud computing
- Strong analytical abilities and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills for moderately complex problems in bioinformatics

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $60.86 - $80.65 per hourThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
