The Project Manager is directly responsible for managing multiple projects on a day-to-day basis. Typically, they will have a Lead Carpenter assigned to each project, they may also have multiple trade partners and in-house-labor on these projects. The PM spends 80% of their time in the field and 20% in the office. The PM, while working with the Vice-President of Operationsand Project Coordinator, is a primary representative of Douglas & Company and their authority is absolute when it comes to daily decision making, regarding quality and safety on-site and during construction. The PM is directly responsible for maintaining and ensuring that all parties who are assigned to a project maintain the quality standards and best practices, which are the standard of Douglas & Company. The PM is continually monitoring the construction process, maintaining schedules, and anticipating the daily needs of the Lead Carpenters, Trade Partners, and Vendors.
The Project Manager is required to have strong communication, organizational and supervisory skills. Understanding the flow of work and planning well in advance for daily on-site needs is a must. The Project Manager will have a complete understanding of the project plan, bringing any questions, discrepancies, or unusual conditions to the attention of the VP/Owner. The Project Manager will accomplish these goals by utilizing field staff, trade-partners, and vendors to their fullest potential.
