The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is seeking a part-time or full-time Social Worker-Senior, to perform social services and admissions/discharges functions. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Come join our dedicated team!

Position Summary


Under general supervision of the Deputy Commandant, this position provides a wide range of independent casework services to WVHUG residents, who have a variety of problems related to disability and aging. The position is also responsible for admissions eligibility determination of veterans, their spouses, surviving spouses and other eligible relatives based on medical criteria and state and federal rules and regulations.

Salary Information


Starting salary will be between $58,240 and $72,800 per year ($28.00 - $35.00 per hour), depending on candidate qualifications, plus an attractive employee benefits package.

The position is in pay schedule-pay range 12-63. For current State employees, pay on appointment will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details


This position must work a minimum of three days per week and may work up to five days per week. The specific number of days will be discussed at the time of interview and will be based on candidate availability. A standard schedule will be set.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by date of hire. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications


In their application, minimally qualified applicants will verify that they are licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin. A current license in a state with Wisconsin reciprocity meets this requirement.

Well-qualified applicants will provide documentation that they have one (1) year of supervised social work experience in a healthcare setting.

Additional required and preferred experience that will be assessed at a later stage in the selection process are:

  • Providing customer service; and
  • Working in a healthcare setting; and
  • Written and verbal communications; and/or
  • Collaborating with a healthcare team; and/or
  • Healthcare admissions and/or discharges; and/or
  • Performing social work duties in a long-term care or veterans services setting
