Class Summary

As an IT Systems Architect, you will be responsible for understanding Gwinnett County’s enterprise Public Safety environment to ensure the environment is secure from any threats, ensuring that the technical components of the environment are in sync with the business needs of the organization, understanding and maintaining the High Availability and Disaster Recovery environment, design and conduct hardware/software tests, and ensure proper performance of the environment.

The incumbent will also be able to diagnose, resolve and document application/hardware problems in a timely and accurate fashion, while ensuring minimal downtime, and respond to system emergencies as required within a 24/7/365 support environment. Participate with Project Management Office to ensure projects are well designed and deployed into the environment. The incumbent will also be required to be on-call after hours, weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule with other team members. Coordinate with internal IT teams to ensure system remains in compliance with County/State/Federal standards.

The Grade for this position is for Grade D61

This job requires a public safety background check to include thorough motor vehicle
histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in information technology or a computer science-related field
Seven years of progressively responsible information technology experience
Valid driver’s license
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully
perform the essential duties of the job will also be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates are required to obtain one or more of the following certifications from the county after hire: GCIC Security and Integrity certification; GCIC Inquiry level workbook certification
  • Excellent analytical and spatial reasoning stills
  • Experience with Windows Server environment – VM Hyper Converge environment
  • Independent, innovative thinker with creative, resourceful and proactive problem-solving skills
  • Experience with cloud providers or cloud-based applications either on premise or hybrid model
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of the 7 layers in the OSI Model
  • Experience with project life cycle and project management principles
  • Experience working closely with contractors and vendors
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Enterprise Architecture
  • Experience in methods and best practices in enterprise-wide systems development
  • Understanding of standard SDLC methodologies
  • Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical systems
  • Experience working in a HA/DR environment
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, enjoys learning new methods of work and technology
  • Working knowledge of XML
  • Knowledge of public safety environments and/or experience working in government is a plus
  • Knowledge or experience with the Nutanix platform is a plus
  • Lead on quarterly system upgrade activities

The 14 departments that make up the executive side are Police Services, Fire and Emergency Services, Corrections, Communications, Support Services, Financial Services, Community Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Law, Planning and Development, Water Resources, Child Advocacy & Juvenile Services, and Transportation. Each department is run by a director who is charged with managing operations in a manner which stresses the County’s values.

In addition to the executive side of County government, certain services are provided through Constitutional officers and independent elected officials. These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law. In Gwinnett, they include the Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, District Attorney, Solicitor, Probate Court Judge, and Chief Magistrate.
