Mission
EdAdvance is one of Connecticut's six Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs). Our mission as the RESC in western Connecticut to is to promote the success of area school districts and their communities. EdAdvance is also a partner in the RESC Alliance and works collaboratively with the other RESC groups to support state-wide initiatives. In addition, EdAdvance operates five specialized school programs for students who are requiring educational placement outside of their district.

GED Prep Review: Spanish Language

Job Description: EdAdvance Adult & Continuing Education is seeking an individual to teach Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies content in Spanish to prepare Spanish-speaking students to take the GED subject tests in these areas.This position reports to the Director of Adult Education.

Major Responsibilities:

• Plan and implement activities and instructional strategies to meet student needs
• Demonstrate knowledge and application of subject matter
• Share assessment results with students and encourage student self-evaluation
• Cooperate with other instructors by sharing ideas and methods of instruction
• Select appropriate learning materials
• Plan individual and group activities
• Create a positive setting in which students may feel emotionally and physically secure
• Complete required student data forms
• Maintain student attendance and follow-up
• Use community resources when available and applicable
• Teach desirable work habits and study skills
• Attend scheduled staff meetings
• Participate in professional staff development activities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• General knowledge of Math (up to Algebra I and Geometry), strategic reading skills, and visual literacy (interpret maps, graphs, charts, etc.)
• Understands the learning needs of adult learners
• Ability to plan and deliver lessons in Spanish to address student learning needs

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Experience teaching
• Excellet communication skills
• Candidate must speak and understand Latin American Spanish
