Sequoia Online Learning Center Description

Sequoia Online Learning Center delivers curriculum and courses to students in a variety of settings. Learning Centers provide a workspace for students to successfully complete course work in a classroom-like setting. Learning Centers combine a traditional classroom with an online learning environment. Students can work at their own pace, with the support of a paraprofessional.

Paraprofessional Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the assistant principal and academic coach, a paraprofessional provides face-to-face guidance and support with the online courses that are taught by highly qualified teachers. The paraprofessional serves as a support for academic coach. They serve as the students’ primary source of support to ensure each student is making meaningful progress in their program. A paraprofessional works on a daily basis to assist their students with overcoming learning obstacles and understanding program expectations. They partner closely with the academic coach to ensure each and every student is receiving the support and academic engagement required to achieve academic success.

This position requires that the paraprofessional cares about and enjoys being with students and has a desire to assist teachers in helping students be successful in school. The person must be able to take directions, demonstrate initiative and possess a positive self-concept.

Paraprofessional must have the following qualifications and are responsibilities for supporting student learning, administrative tasks, and basic tech support at the site. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Required Documents

  • Copy of a Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card IVP
  • 60 credit hours at an accredited institution wherein the credits would transfer to a 4-year college/university towards a bachelor’s degree or
  • AA Degree (transcripts required that shows conferred degree) or
  • Passing of an ADE approved exam (ex. Praxis)

Paraprofessional Qualifications

  • Ability to multitask while keeping students working
  • Working knowledge of various LMS, SIS, various software, social media and programs such as, Khan Academy, Zoom, and Blackboard/Canvas etc.
  • Provide academic intervention when necessary
  • Ability to provide math support thru Algebra II
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal, organizational, and management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; comfortable communicating with staff, students and parents
  • Willing to hold student accountable for behavior and academic progress when necessary
  • Self-driven; able to set own deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Maintain confidential materials and student information
  • Willing to comply with and follow all school policies and procedures
  • Understands the social and emotional needs of 7th-12th grade students
  • Willing to be a team player and work collaboratively with an academic coach and other staff
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred

Paraprofessional Responsibilities

Administrative Tasks

  • Follow the lead of the academic coach
  • Maintain and report attendance as the representative agent for all students
  • Identify and communicate material needed to support students’ academic progress
  • Monitor your time and check in and out per your schedule
  • Attend monthly SOLC meetings
  • Actively participate in ongoing professional development
  • Be responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Be flexible and performing other duties relating to general job function as assigned by the academic coach or assistant principal
  • Work closely with academic coach to maintain the culture and climate of the site
  • Attend weekly meetings with academic coach to collaborate and plan for activities for the site
  • Being alert to and reporting the possibility of any substance use, child abuse, or dangerous situation based upon daily observation
  • Operating and caring for school equipment properly
  • Following district policies
  • Must have ability to keep abreast of information pertinent to the job
  • Performing all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed by supervisors
  • Actively participate in in-services, workshops, or conferences as directed
  • Maintaining courteous relationships with students, staff and parents by treating others with respect
  • Exercising positive problem-solving behavior and conflict resolution skills
  • Adhering to the dress code appropriate for the site and job
  • Maintaining a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  • Participating in students’ daily school experience in a constructive manner
  • Picking up, prepare and distribute school lunches

Support Student Learning

  • Follow the classroom structure arranged by academic coach
  • Under the direct advisement of the academic coach the paraprofessional will maintain adequate documentation in PowerSchool and ELMS: specific and measurable
  • Seek help from academic coach to assist you with evaluating students’ learning styles, skills, deficiencies, and goals
  • As directed by academic coach the paraprofessional will participate as a team member for the Student Support Team, and Special Education Services
  • Work with academic coach regarding course discipline issues such as plagiarism, academic dishonesty, and inappropriate communications
  • Provide or direct students to interventions as expected by the academic coach, online teacher, SST, 504’s, EL, or IEP
  • Collaborate with academic coach on the monthly progress monitoring and conduct student check ins
  • Enter necessary testing codes and proctor final exams
  • Check for course completion prior to starting a final exam for students
  • Build rapport with students, identify their learning strengths, areas for improvement and connect students to necessary resources to aid in their success
  • Assist with proctor state testing
  • Provide students with appropriate skills-based support and implement restorative practice as directed by academic coach
  • Provide math tutoring up through Algebra II
  • Make the well-being of students the fundamental value in all decision making
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with students, academic coach, and assistant principal
  • Participate in and chaperone fieldtrips and after school programs
  • Substitute for academic coach as needed

Technical Support

  • Ensure technology at the site is in working order by informing the academic coach: computers, internet, copier, phone lines, and ELMS
  • Working knowledge of course structure and other tools such as: Khan Academy, Zoom, ELMS, Alpine, NWEA, Facebook, Instagram etc.

Safety of the Site

  • Follow all social media guidelines
  • Enforce and follow all emergency guidelines such as lock down, fire drill etc. as directed by academic coach
  • Ensure proper cleaning and general maintenance needs are reported to the academic coach
  • Ensure that there is adult supervision, of students, at all times while students are engaged in programs being provided by SCAZDL
  • Complete proper training and follow current transportation guidelines for Edkey

Communication

  • Be sure to respond to emails and phone calls within 24 hours
  • Promote your site on social media as directed by the Academic coach
  • Maintain regular, prompt, friendly, efficient, and patient communication with students, parents, staff, external customers, administration and specific Edkey departments
