Staff or Associate Geologists Job at AGS/Aetypic
AGS, Inc. is an established multidisciplinary engineering firm based in San Francisco, seeking part-time or full-time Staff or Associate Geologists. Our project portfolio includes Transportation (Airports/Roads/Transit/Marine), Water/Wastewater, Community Spaces (Regional Parks/Community Parks/Playgrounds/Schools), and other large infrastructure programs throughout the Bay Area. The majority of our projects are in San Francisco and Oakland, with easy commutes from the office to the job site.

We are seeking a Staff Geologist, Senior Staff Geologist, or Environmental Geologist in our San Francisco, California office. Under supervision of senior staff, candidates will work on a variety of geotechnical and environmental engineering projects.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Planning and execution of geotechnical and environmental field investigations, including subcontractor coordination, permitting, logging borings, collecting samples, and recording boring logs.
- Identification of field obstacles in advance and proactive mitigation of problems, demonstrating good judgement of when to escalate and communicate issues to the supervisor during field work.
- Excavating test pits or trenches and installing monitoring wells.
- Performing background research, including reviewing literature, historic aerial photography, and previous geotechnical/geologic/environmental investigations.
- Preparing documents including field daily reports, gINT boring logs, chain of custody logs, geologic mapping, and subsurface profiles.
- Construction observation such as shallow foundation, deep foundation, slope repair, and tunneling.
- Data collection and data management, including using tools to streamline the collection such as field tablets and organizing the data into the company database.
- Assisting in preparation of proposals, work plans, reports, and technical presentations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science.
- Two to five years’ experience working in the field of geology and/or environmental geology; background in consulting and construction a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail with excellent problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working in a team setting with geologists, engineers and scientists.
- A valid U.S. Driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Geology or Earth Science.
- Certifications including Geologist-in-Training (GIT), Professional Geologist (PG), CEG (California Engineering Geologist), California Hydrogeologist (CHG), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
- Excellent field observation and data collection skills.
- Experience with a variety of drilling techniques (mud rotary, hollow stem auger, and direct push) and advancing CPTs.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, gINT, AutoCAD, and GIS.
