This full-time position for a Staff Research Associate I in the Department of Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine will entail being responsible for assisting with clinical trials and laboratory research. They will have the following responsibilities: analyze multiplex immunofluorescence, processing clinical biological samples such as blood and tumor, maintain detailed sample and experiment records, cataloguing sample inventory, as well as retrieving, transporting, and shipping biological samples. The Staff Research Associate I will be responsible for training any new lab personnel. Other necessary responsibilities include being responsible for laboratory maintenance: this includes the disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste, autoclaving and cleaning of lab equipment and supplies, ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, and ensuring the lab space abides by institutional safety standards. Necessary skills and experience include knowledge of sterile technique, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) isolation, serum and plasma isolation, tissue culture, and digital pathology software experience. Must be able to follow standard operating procedures and work collaboratively with others. Prefer minimum of bachelor’s degree in life sciences and 2 years of laboratory experience. Administrative work will be required, including maintenance of records, approval of protocols, laboratory maintenance, and scheduling of experiments. Candidate will follow all laboratory safety practices. Training volunteers, assist with maintain IRB and coordinating subject appointments with administrative assistants. Pay Range: $24.88 - $29.67 Hourly
Required: * Must have at least 3 years prior wet laboratory experience * Previous experience with biosafety training, sterile technique and human biospecimens. * Competency to analyze multiplex immunofluorescence data and use digital pathology programs, such as Halo, to quantify data. * Ability and willingness to learn new techniques as needed for ongoing and developing projects. * Ability to order supplies, track expenditures for supplies, lab maintenance, A telephones, and other recurring expenses; responsible for general maintenance upkeep of laboratory equipment; train new personnel in the use of laboratory equipment; ensure laboratory is in compliance with various safety requirements, including EH&S and biosafety compliance. * Supervision of student lab helpers. * Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with great organizational skills * Maintain accurate records of experiments and results both in writing and computerized database. * Interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, faculty and administrators. * Ability to work with frequent interruptions and competing priorities. Preferred: * General knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures.
