SRS is seeking an Assistant Store Managers and Closing Managers to join our Albany, New York area team! This role is responsible for daily execution of the Company’s Operational Standards and individual Department Commercial Plan. The Assistant Store Manager ensures the training, coaching, counseling and development of associates within assigned departments, including Department Managers, developing leaders program and full- & part-time associates on all aspects of the company’s programs and standards to maximize sales and gross profit while delivering an exceptional guest experience.

The Assistant Store Manager and Closing Manager reports to the Store Manager upon completion of the Management Training Program while collaborating with the Merchandising support team.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Actively support the Store Manager in the fulfillment of his/her responsibilities in planning, organizing, directing and controlling store activities and operations.
  • Assist in the coordination, implementation and execution of sales, merchandising, promotional programs and operational standards for assigned departments.
  • Manage all aspects of assigned departments and maintain responsibility for full store operations, including but not limited to store opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure assigned departments are trained and coached to meet Operational Standards and Quality Assurance on guidelines for opening, closing, staffing departments, product ordering, display standards, signage and labeling. Ensuring safety for associates and customers with use of use of protective equipment, temperature and cleaning standards.
  • Ensure department sales, profit margin and shrink meet or exceed budget.
  • Ensure that all displays are built for maximum sales and profits, are neat, colorful and stable, include tie-in merchandise when applicable, and are properly signed.
  • Assist in controlling department inventory levels to minimize over-stocks and under-stocks to maximize sales, inventory turns, and return-on-investment within established guidelines for the store and company.
  • Perform all duties of the Store Manager in his/her absence.
  • Ongoing review of product quality & freshness, signage compliance, inventory levels for assigned departments.
  • Consistent collaboration and communication with Store Management, Department Managers and department Associates.
  • Train and develop department Associates to deliver product quality and customer service goals.
  • Actively engage with developing leaders in assigned department on a regular basis. Coach and teach these associates, along with documenting their progress.
  • Demonstrate accountability by coaching and managing resources in an effective manner; adhere to policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Competitor visits to monitor comparable product pricing, operational standards & quality and employment relations and management techniques.
  • Make recommendations by using consumer panels, employee and customer experience measures combined with financial information to provide continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with all store management, operations and merchandising support staff, corporate personnel, vendors and Wakefern partners.
  • Model the Company’s Purpose with all activities and communication and demonstrate the foundations of customer focus through professionalism, commitment to service, reaching resolutions, making guests feel trusted, welcome, important, special and pleased.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree; and two – four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Management and Retail experience preferred.
  • Ability to motivate, train, coach and develop others.
  • Proficient with PC skills using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Required to regularly stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and or smell. The associate frequently is required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The associate must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift 50 lbs. or more as a group lift.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures.
