Midlands Middle College provides a bridge to success for students who will change tomorrow. Located on the Airport Campus of Midlands Technical College, Midlands Middle College (MMC) integrates high school, technical college and the world of work into one rigorous and relevant program. A South Carolina public charter high school, MMC prepares students in grades 10 through 12 for successful academic and professional futures by completing graduation requirements, enrolling in dual credit courses, and engaging in programs leading to college and career readiness. Since 2006, MMC has offered a fresh academic start to hundreds of high school students located in the Midlands of South Carolina.

Position Summary:

A high school counselor plays a critical role in helping students navigate the challenges of academic, personal, and social development during their high school years. Overall, a high school counselor should be a skilled and compassionate professional who is dedicated to helping students succeed academically, personally, and socially. The following is a general and not exhaustive job description for a high school counselor:

• ● Provide academic guidance and support to students in regards to course selection, college admissions, and career planning
• ● Assist students with personal and social issues, such as mental health concerns, family problems, and peer relationships
• ● Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with students to address a variety of issues, including stress management, conflict resolution, and substance abuse
• ● Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to identify and address student needs
• ● Maintain accurate and confidential student records and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
• ● Develop and implement prevention programs related to bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness and other student safety issues
• ● Attend professional development opportunities and stay current on relevant research and best practices in school counseling

MUST hold SCDE School Counselor Certification

Salary and Benefits

MMC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. The benefits package includes an employee incentive program; participation in state-sponsored health, dental and vision coverage programs; and state retirement options including the South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) and the State Optional Retirement Program (State ORP).
