POSITION TITLE: Summer Day Camp Assistant
STATUS: NON-EXEMPT (5-week assignment)
Compensation: $16.00 hr.

FUNCTION OF THE POSITION: The Summer Day Camp Assistant supports the Summer Camp Program in the daily operation of summer programs; assists with and monitors both classroom and outside activities for children; provides a safe, clean environment; prepares and executes lesson plans for elective courses; participates with children in field trips and activities, and assists with meals for children as needed.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Must be able to read, write, and communicate well in English
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED):
Knowledge of various sports with the ability to teach and instruct youth.
Must be able to read and teach music, especially in the Salvation Army music program.
Requires detail-oriented, self-starter, and team player, with the ability to work with and relate well to children, parents, and staff in a mature and sensitive manner
Must meet all health, safety, and criminal/fingerprint clearance regulations
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure
Ability to access and produce information from the computer; ability to use new software programs with basic training
Ability and willingness to keep the information confidential
Have a philosophy of education and child development in sympathy with that of The Salvation Army and Summer Day Camp programs
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follow instructions and directions with minimal staff supervision
Monitor check-in and check-out times; demonstrate excellent telephone skills when needed
Assist camp staff by passing out or collecting materials; setting out and storing equipment as required; setting up rooms for special activities, and restoring rooms to order following activities.
Maintaining a clean, orderly learning environment, including necessary housekeeping duties.
Aschildren'schildren's supervision in the day camp setting as assigned.
Immediately report any potentially harmful or harmful situations to the supervisor.
Remain available and ready for duty in assigned areas during rotations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Handle crisis and emergency situations appropriately and professionally
Participate with children in group activities; assist in playground supervision and help with meal/snack preparation and service.
Treat each child with dignity and respect, be sensitive and responsive to their needs at all times, and be concerned for their safety and well-being.
Demonstrate proper clean-up methods; oversee children in clean-up activities.
Teach children responsibility for maintaining classroom equipment in good order.
Prepare presentations for talent show; children's creative works
Attend all in-service workshops and staff meetings
Maintain a professional attitude; demonstrate a professional approach to problem-solving
Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
Grasp, push, and pull objects such as files and file cabinet drawers and reach overhead
Lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums ($34.62) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options
Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.
Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.
Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation is eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
