General Description and Classification Standards

Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. This is an experienced professional level (intermediate) capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered promotional and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Could be the only professional of this specialty in a work group. Supervision Received Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Sets up administrator and service accounts within the IT system. Maintains system documentation. Tunes system performance. Installs system wide software and allocates mass storage space. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Assists in making recommendations to purchase hardware and software and coordinating installation and back up recovery. Monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. Decision Making Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or senior level professional. Leadership Provided Informal or review; may be informal team leader or may review work of less experienced professionals or support staff.

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered) with 2 years of specific network experience.

Preferred Education & Experience Master’s degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the master’s degree on an exception basis) with 2-4 years' of directly related professional work.
