POWER SCHOLARS ACADEMY™ PROGRAM
Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a 5-week summer learning program run in partnership with the West Cook YMCA, School District 90, and BellXcel. The program is designed to provide academic, social emotional learning, and enrichment supports for 1st through 4th grade scholars. Scholars are identified and invited based on the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support process (MTSS) as Tier 2.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Academic Teachers role is to actively engage each scholar and support their Social Emotional Learning and Academic Development over the 5-week summer enrichment program. Responsible for preparation, teaching and support to the Assistant Teachers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Implementing literacy and math curricula and activities to meet academic standards
2. Utilizing formal assessment data to refine and adapt curriculum lessons and inform instructional practices
3. Developing daily engaging lesson plans aligned to specific learning objectives
4. Delivering relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons utilizing a variety of instructional methods
5. Maintaining an organized and efficient classroom
6. Adhering to all Power Scholars Academy and district professional expectations and compliance expectations
7. Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment
8. Motivating and holding scholars to high academic and behavioral expectations
9. Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for scholar behavior grounded in positive discipline
10. Empowering scholars to make positive choices and serving as a role model
11. Being accountable for meeting scholars’ individual academic and instructional needs
12. Implementing collaborative and co-teaching instructional strategies with Power Scholars Academy tutors
13. Communicating effectively with scholars, families, Power Scholars Academy staff, and host school staff

REQUIRED SKILLS AND REQUISITES
· Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s in Education or other related discipline preferred.
· Minimum of two years teaching experience with elementary or middle school aged children
· Valid state elementary/middle school teacher certification; preferred in math and/or literacy
· Previous and relevant experience in utilizing and implementing data-driven instructional practices
· Experience in the use of technology (computer/internet) for assessment and instruction
· Knowledge of differentiated instructional practices and strategies
· Drive to improve the minds and lives of scholars within their community
· Proven track-record of high achievement in a classroom setting
· Mastery of and enthusiasm for math & literacy academic standards and instructional rigor
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
· Committed to the goals of the program and approach
· Love and respect for children
· Evidence of efficacy and willingness to be a team player
· Belief and commitment to the Y’s mission and values
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $43.00 per hour
