Temporary Full-Time GIS/Remote Sensing Technician Job at Alabama A&M University
Summary:
The GIS/Remote Sensing technicians will be assigned to one or more projects that include scanning/digitizing, feature extraction, data collection, spectral analysis and developing geodatabase.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Scan, digitize and delineate wetlands from 2,068 30" x 30" National High-Altitude Program (NHAP) color infrared imagery sheets for the entire 67 counties in Alabama.
- Development of a spectral signature database
- Maintain or modify existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases
- Enter data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases, using techniques such as coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning or automatic conversion to vectors, or conversion of other sources of digital data.
- UAV data collection using multispectral /hyperspectral sensors platform
- Review existing or incoming data for accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- Associate degree preferably bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Cartography, Geography, Geospatial Information Systems, Remote Sensing or other closely related degrees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working experience with the ArcGIS Pro to digitize and analyze, process, and display geospatial data.
- Working experience with the ERDAS to digitize and analyze, process, and display remotely sensed data.
- Knowledge of UAVs, data collection and processing.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online for managing online public and private maps.
- Ability to work independently on projects in a timely manner.

The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of years of related experience or number of years in the hiring rank.
