Job Description
The Chesapeake Expressway Division of Public Works is seeking full-time toll collectors to perform responsible clerical work in the collection of tolls charged to motorists for using the Chesapeake Expressway Toll Road. Collectors are also responsible for ensuring we provide a safe environment and smooth traffic flow for the traveling public.
- Essential duties include receiving and accounting for tolls/change, assessing and recording the appropriate toll, and maintaining the order and cleanliness of the toll booth work area.
- Qualifications include general knowledge of the procedures of cashier duties, the ability to do simple arithmetic and count and handle money with speed and accuracy, and the ability to serve the public courteously.
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of, and/or outside of, their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Chesapeake Expressway toll collectors work as essential (alpha) personnel in support of a 24 hour/day, 365-day/year operation, including holidays, weekends, and during inclement weather events. Schedules are subject to change to meet the operational needs of the Chesapeake Expressway.

As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing.
