Job Description

Have you been considered an expert when it comes to testing and operating equipment?
If so, the Department of Public Utilities is looking for a dynamic person like yourself to train our Maintenance and Operations’ employees on technical skills, operation of motorized equipment and tools, safety, Commercial Driving License (CDL), and construction related administrative regulations, procedures and policies. In addition, the position works within broad policy and organizational guidelines; independently plans and implements projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.

If so, the Department of Public Utilities is looking for a dynamic person like yourself to train our Maintenance and Operations’ employees on technical skills, operation of motorized equipment and tools, safety, Commercial Driving License (CDL), and construction related administrative regulations, procedures and policies. In addition, the position works within broad policy and organizational guidelines; independently plans and implements projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.
Typical tasks include:
- Develops and conducts training on technical skills, safety, CDL, and the operation of motorized equipment programs for field forces.
- Develops and prepares training manuals and power point presentations for training purposes.
- Prepares and implements training schedules to give employees the opportunity to obtain the skills for advancement.
- Maintains departmental records on employees’ progress towards training objectives.
- Maintains a tracking database on each employee’s training.
- Tests, operates, and performs minor repairs on equipment to maintain flow of operations.
- Performs related tasks as necessary such as assisting with OSHA computer training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position requires a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement prior to date of hire and is subject to random drug/alcohol testing. Some night work may also be required.

Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
- Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
- A current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with tanker endorsement is required and must be maintained.
- Specialized certifications may be required based on department assigned. CPR must be obtained within 6 months.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
