Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, public relations, communications, or related field, and two (2) years experience in mass communications, public relations, advertising, journalism, marketing or publicity.

Licenses and Certificates: None.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, prepare and present information pertaining to the policies, programs and activities of El Paso Water Utilities and the Public Service Board (EPWU/PSB). Research, plan, develop and distribute informational materials.

Typical Duties

Media relations: Prepare news releases, public service announcements and briefing materials, and translate into Spanish as needed. Release information to the media and respond to requests for interviews or information in a timely manner by phone, in person or in writing. Coordinate or assist with news briefings and conferences. Ensure accuracy and sensitivity of information presented to the media. Track, monitor and measure EPWU/PSB and water industry media coverage.

Public relations/Communications: Develops communication plans, conducts research, prepares and disseminates articles, fact sheets, brochures, presentations, videos and other products for multiple audiences. Develops web and social media strategies and content, manages key social media channels, and supports other online communication tools. Responds to specific public and/or stakeholder requests for information. Represent the Utility in a variety of forums, including community meetings, workshops, education events, conferences, etc.

Internal Communications: Develops an effective internal network to identify news and information relevant to all Utility employees. Researches, writes/shoots and edits effective and engaging content for a variety of internal communication channels, including intranet, email, video, newsletter(s), and visuals. Assists with leadership communications initiatives around the strategic plan and other news, projects or developments. Helps plan and coordinate town halls and other key internal meetings.
