The New York Film Academy (NYFA) DVS has been privileged to enroll over 3500 veteran students and military dependents at our campuses in New York City, NY; Los Angeles, CA, and South Beach, FL., since 2009. The Los Angeles, New York City and South Beach campuses also participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program which allows eligible veterans and dependents in many cases the opportunity to go to school for free. The honorable Colonel Jack Jacobs, Medal of Honor recipient and on-air military strategist for NBC/MSNBC, is the Chair of the NYFA Veterans Advancement Program.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinate all aspects of the Division of Veterans Services Outreach programs connected to all three NYFA U.S. Campuses (LA, NYC, South Beach). The position is situated at the LA (Burbank) Campus. The duties and responsibilities of the Division of Veterans Services Outreach Specialist (DVSOS) include, but not limited to, recruitment and outreach activities, partnership stewardship, active and military and veteran community engagement, event planning and supervision, application processing, veteran benefit certification, and all relevant application advising; develop and implement marketing plans to facilitate enrollment; establish an environment and actions that lead to the best possible retention rates for the veteran and benefit- eligible dependents population; establish relationships with federal, state and local veteran services organizations; and assist with certifying enrollments for veterans benefits; schedule and oversee faculty and staff trainings, student orientations, and special events such as master classes, film screening, etc., be responsible for identifying and serving as a resources for enrolled students, dependents; alumni, NYFA faculty, and staff; and ensure that the DVS Director and VP of Strategic Initiatives are kept informed about all important issues and activities pertaining to veteran students and activities at all three campus (LA, NY, and SOBE) and that the chain-of-command protocols are followed.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.
Serve as a primary contact for currently enrolled and prospective veterans and benefit-eligible dependents on campus.
Provide accurate information to all interested veterans regarding current educational benefits and programs provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Develop an annual recruitment plan that encompasses all enrollment aspects of New York Film
Academy and focuses the digital and on-ground strategies that will be implemented each year in an effort to meet enrollment goals.
Systematically evaluate and update the effectiveness of recruitment practices related to the annual recruitment plan.
Directly Recruit prospective students and handle applications as needed.
Enhance recruitment department and New York Film Academy’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities and add value to job accomplishments.
Attend open house events, veteran specific professional development events and facilitate specific division of Veterans Services events such as Master Classes.
Assist DVS Director in executing outreach and recruitment activities.
Facilitate appropriate referrals to other internal and external support programs, such as NYFA Counseling Services, Academic Services, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVS), Vet Centers and
Department of Labor Veterans Employment.
Serve as a primary contact in the certification of veteran’s GI Bill education benefits to the Department of Veterans Affairs, processing Military Tuition Assistance.
Assist with the development of the South Beach DVS campus veterans’ program, which includes serving as a contact for currently enrolled and prospective veterans and benefit-eligible dependents.
Organize outreach efforts to educate those currently serving in the United States military, veterans and their family members about the educational programs offered at the New York Film Academy.
Assist veteran students in the development of a recognized student organization.
Expand formal partnerships with external resources on behalf of the New York Film Academy.
Develop an orientation program for veterans enrolled at the New York Film Academy.
Serve as the primary contact to support NYFA DVS marketing efforts.
Assist in additional tasks, projects and activities as needed and at the request of NYFA and DVS
leadership.
Annual target enrollment growth of 30%.
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:
This role requires the individual to function well in a complex institutional framework, including
having patience for ambiguity and the ability to respond quickly and pivot when new directives are
provided from executives.
A demonstrated understanding of the higher education market, specifically and ability to identify
opportunities for growth and change.
Knowledge and understanding of Department of Veterans Affairs GI bill education benefits
Knowledge and understanding of the Department of Veterans Affairs GI bill education benefits.

Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor's Degree in related fields.
Minimum of 3-4 years of related prior experience.
Background in visual and/or performing arts is a plus but not required.
Military Veteran is a plus but not required.
