We are a small, rural Humane Society animal shelter serving all of Jefferson County, Wa. We have 2 part-time Veterinarians who spay/neuter cats and dogs for low-income area residents, as well as shelter animals prior to adoptions. Surgeries are performed in a state-of-the-art Surgical Trailer on-site, where the Vets conduct spay/neuter operations and other medical procedures including vaccinations.

We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to assist our Veterinarians and Vet Technician with surgeries on Mondays and Fridays (with occasional Wednesdays). Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:*Ensuring treatment areas, cages, kennels, and surgery trailer are clean and organized. *sterilizing medical equipment. *restraining animals.*assisting with medications, *drawing blood, *cleaning patients' teeth, *performing laboratory tests, *maintaining medical records, and other duties as assigned.

Our new assistant will also need to work most Saturdays and Sundays assisting with general shelter duties (cleaning kennels, feeding animals, helping with adoptions and surrendered animals, computer data entry and complying with all rules and regulations. This is considered a full-time, 32 hour per week position with sick leave and paid time off.

*Strong people skills.
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
*Experience working with BOTH dogs and cats. *Be aware of safety protocols and consistently follow them. *The ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time.
*A NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant Certification is strongly preferred. *Two years of directly related experience at an animal shelter may substitute for certification.

This position requires a certain skill set necessary to perform the duties successfully. Failure to do so could result in the injury or death of an animal. Please do not apply if you "love animals" but have no professional experience in this area.
