Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, or related field of rehabilitation psychology; or Masters degree in any counseling or psychology specialization, with one year of experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations; or Bachelor’s degree in either counseling, psychology, sociology, or otherwise related field with a minimum of two years of experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations; orRehabilitation Counseling Masters Degree student supervised by a CRC. Valid NYS Drivers’ License.

the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is responsible for educational and vocational rehabilitation counseling of individuals recovering from substance abuse issues. Assist staff and patients in developing and implementing a comprehensive program of vocational rehabilitation services that will result in patient’s involvement in employment, skills training or education activities. Provide and/or coordinate those pre-vocational and vocational activities which will help patients develop and achieve vocational rehabilitation goals and function successfully in competitive employment. Facilitate access to needed community vocational, via established linkages with vocational/educational service providers in the local community and refer[s] patients who are appropriate for these services

The following duties will apply:

Duties

1. Academic and vocational test administration, scoring and interpretation of test results.

2. Interdisciplinary staff meeting attendance and participation. Collaboration on recovery plans with the residential & clinical treatment staff.

3. Participates in group and individual supervision and team meetings.

4. Interface with education and vocational agencies that provide service to our clients to collaborate ongoing progress updates.

5. Charting and documentation compliance, as per OASAS regulatory standards.

6. Monthly statistics regarding client’s participation in training, remediation, etc. are tabulated and given to the Departmental Supervisor.

7. Visits to community agencies and V.E.S.I.D. case conference participation are done on a periodic basis as determined by the client’s treatment issues.

8. Facilitation of vocational groups. Groups will focus on psycho-educational activities that prepare clients towards securing gainful employment.

9. Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with community groups, referral sources, planning, funding and service agencies.

10. Coordinate community service.

11. Work individually with clients to develop and implement vocational service plans.

12. Other duties and functions as directed.

13. Participate in the NYESS process when applicable.
