Facilities- Groundskeeper

General Position Summary:

Performs duties as directed including preparation, planting, and maintenance of flowerbeds. Includes planting and care of trees, shrubs, and flowering plants.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

• Plants and maintains plants as directed
• Trims, edges, and waters shrubs, trees, flowering plants
• Weeds, cleans out plants, and tends to all flowerbeds
• Keeps gardens and lawn areas clean and well maintained
• Maintenance and general repair of garden equipment used during shift or at a minimum brings equipment repairs to the attention of the Landscape Coordinator

Secondary Functions:

• Assists with the pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs as requested
• Assists with the replacement of dead or diseased plants and trees with new plants and trees after consultation
• Performs other duties as assigned during shift in effort to maintain an efficient operation

Specific Job Skills:

• Ability to use hand and garden tools, safely and efficiently
• Knowledge of the proper use of insecticides and fertilizers and other toxic materials
• Able to perform general ground maintenance tasks in an efficient manner
• Works within the Student Employee Policy requirements (High School Students)
• Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Must be sixteen (16) years of age, at a minimum

Job Conditions:

Working conditions include working outside, and in inclement weather condition, for long periods of time. Climbing (use of ladders both inside and outside), lifting, bending, stooping and crawling into difficult workspaces. Other conditions include working alone, frequent interruptions, evenings and/or weekends. High School students fulfilling this position may not be left alone during business hours (i.e. may not assume responsibility of securing operation in the evening).

Physical Requirements:

Manual and finger dexterity for the operation of hand and garden tools. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and to lift 50 lbs.
