YMCA New Horizons Facilitator Job at YMCA of Orange County
Description
New Horizons is a respite program for adults with special needs ages 18 and up. The ideal candidate must enjoy and have experience working with adults with this special population. Under the guidance and general supervision of the New Horizons Program Director, this position will assist in recreational outings in the community, social interaction, skills building, and independence. This is a place where participants expand their horizons while gaining normalization and giving their caregiver time-off.
Hours are:
Tuesday-Thursday 3pm-8pm
Friday 3pm-9pm
The Special Needs Program Staff attends all program events.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Attends program events; nights, weekend, and overnight trips (may require).
- Ability to drive 7 passenger van with class C license.
- Assist in monitoring events to adhere to all YMCA safety standards and policies.
- Supervise and assist all program participants.
- Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
- Ability to work with challenging behaviors as well as to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Attend annual trainings as assigned.
Qualifications
Hiring Criteria
The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Education & Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; First Aid & CPR; 2 years college in behavioral science preferred.
Experience & Background: Must be 21 years of age. Must be able to address special needs and issues of developmentally disabled people. Must have experience with group supervision. Pediatric (EMSA) First Aid and Pediatric (EMSA) CPR certifications required.
