ICA is seeking an Instructor (US citizen) to teach a synchronous/asynchronous Arabic Summary Workshop for Government linguists.

The instructor must be a U.S. citizen.

Job description:

The workshop will meet weekly for class time where the instructor will present teaching points for the week and the new weekly assignment. The instructor will be accessible using the workshops chat and forum features in ICA Learn, through email, and during office hours hosted on Wednesdays.

• Period of Performance: 04/10/2023 – 05/08/2023 (4 weeks)
• Weekly class hours: Mondays, 11-1 pm EST
• Number of students: 9 students
• Students language background: intermediate
• Workshop total hours: up to 150 hours
• Student engagement and homework review: up to 2 hours per student per week (scheduled with students directly in individual and group feedback sessions)
• Students homework assignment: 4 hours per week

• Rate: $40.00

The aim of a Translation (Summary) for the Arabic language is to provide linguists with training on summary translation with an emphasis on allowing the reader to understand the key points of the original material.

This workshop shall focus on the essential elements of information and relevant facts as they relate to collection requirements. It is not a word-for-word translation of the original. The goal of this Summary Translation Workshop is by presenting essential elements of information based on the main idea of source material, information that is important to the customer, and additional relevant information considered supplementary.

Required qualifications:

• Experience teaching summarizing (producing English summaries from Arabic source material)
• Experience teaching foreign language to adults in a group class setting
• Translation work experience
• Understanding of ILR scale
• Native or near native skills in the Arabic and English language

Required technology skills:

• Experience working with MS Teams (or comparable platform) uploading files, presenting, screensharing etc.
• Experience working with Moodle (or other) LMS

A Translation Summary Course Instructor should be able to:

• Teach linguists how to summarize in good English
• Feel comfortable teaching heritage speakers
• Feel comfortable teaching in both English and Arabic language.
