Overview

The Agency of Human Services Legal Division at the Vermont Attorney General’s Office has an immediate opening for an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General. This position will be responsible for representing the Department of Vermont Health Access (DVHA) in state courts in Medicaid recovery actions, including estate and third-party recovery and in appeals before the Human Services Board from decisions made by the health exchange, Vermont Health Access, as well as all Medicaid appeals from long term care, and Medicaid coverage. Other duties include contract review and related administrative legal work. Experience in probate practice, elder law, and estates is a plus.

Description

Located in Waterbury, the Assistant Attorney General will be responsible for handling litigation in Vermont Civil and Probate Courts. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and be capable of working as part of a team.

Compensation

This Assistant Attorney General position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan. Minimum Requirements

Preference will be given to applicants with relevant experience, especially in Vermont, but newly admitted attorneys are welcome to apply as this position provides a great opportunity to gain litigation experience. Candidates must be willing to travel and work independently, but within the structure of a government legal team. Self-reliance, IT skills and knowledge of state and federal Medicaid regulations and policies are a plus. Candidates must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in.
