Position Summary Guidelines:
All full-time core faculty within the Department of Physical Therapy Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program are subject to the policies and provisions in the Clarkson University Faculty Policy Handbook. This handbook is maintained by the Faculty Senate and University Provost and lists the faculty expectations by rank and contract type. Faculty have options to pursue a tenure track faculty line or a clinical track faculty line within the Department of Physical Therapy. In addition to the requirements and responsibilities listed in the Faculty Policy Handbook, each DPT core faculty is expected to perform the following functions and responsibilities:
Primary Functions
- Collaborates in teaching, scholarship, and service obligations in accordance with the position and contract expectations of the Department and School.
- Strives for continual advancement of teaching, scholarship, and service excellence.
- Participates with substantive contributions to the ongoing DPT program curriculum design, implementation, and assessment.
- Engages in a scholarship agenda through selected modes ranging from discovery, Integration, application, and teaching/learning.
- Participates with substantive contributions to the development of student policies and procedures for the DPT program in accordance with policies of the School/University that might be of increased rigor to such policies to match contemporary educational practices of DPT education.
- Collaborates in and contributes to departmental accreditation and strategic planning activities.
- Offers recommendations related to administrative functions of the Department.
Responsibilities
- Participates in student recruitment, applicant reviews, admission, progression, and retention decisions in accordance with student policies and procedures.
- Models professional formation and content expertise of all student handbook policies through advising, teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities.
- Assumes teaching responsibilities that match contemporary expertise and personal expertise to support the department needs as assigned by the Department Chair.
- Supports students in community engagement and service-learning opportunities for curricular and extra-curricular expectations in alignment with professional contributions and responsibilities of being a doctorally prepared health professional.
- Advises students throughout the DPT program in academic, clinical, and professional formation to promote success in expected graduate outcomes and program completion.
- Advances an active scholarly agenda in accordance with contract, DPT Program Faculty Scholarship expectations and CAPTE scholarship guidelines.
- Completes peer evaluations upon request for the purpose of promoting collaborative efforts to strive for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service of the faculty team.
- Completes individual self-assessments and development plans annually for review with Chair that meets faculty guidelines of promotion and tenure as specified by contract type, ongoing program assessment, and CAPTE faculty expectations.
- Attends annual professional development activities necessary for current licensure and/or specialty certification to ensure evidence of contemporary expertise in preferred and assigned teaching responsibilities.
- Maintains professional licensure as appropriate for the State of New York.
- Maintains specialty certifications that would include specialty board certification, specialty practice certifications etc.
- Maintains active membership in professional societies, associations, or organizations to role model professional obligations while seeking leadership opportunities within the profession that positively represents the Department/School/University.
- Contributes to the evaluation of associate faculty and guest speakers with recommendations forwarded to the Department Chair.
- Participates in the ongoing identification of physical plant and equipment needs and maintenance, reporting issues, material and manufacturer updates, and calibration requirements per Department policy.
- Collaborates as an active member in Department/School/University committees and/or outside professional/community leadership dependent upon rank, and contract type as supported by the Department Chair.
- Offers or at a minimum continually pursues investigation of contemporary clinical practice related to areas of assigned teaching and clinical specialty per workload allocations as expected by contract type, CAPTE requirements and department needs supported by Department Chair.
- Demonstrates evidence of participation in short term workgroups defined each year by either Department/School Leadership Team or the Department/School/University Strategic Priorities.
- Engages in all Department/School/University activities that fosters high performing team dynamics illustrating accountability, collaborative processes and achieves defined outcomes.
- Follows policies found in the Department/School/University administrative and student handbooks to support the shared Mission, Vision and expected graduate outcomes of the DPT program.
- Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.
Remote Workdays: This is a full time, on Campus, position with zero remote workdays.

Required Qualifications:
- Possess a PT degree and an academic doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, DHS, EdD), and/or a DPT degree and an APTA board certified clinical specialization with a minimum of 4 yrs. of clinical experience, 3 yrs. of clinical teaching experience preferred (CI, SCCE) and/or willingness to pursue an academic doctoral degree within 1 yr. of hire as needed for CAPTE faculty requirements.
- Other professional/academic degrees that can contribute to overall program teaching, scholarship success and accreditation requirements may be considered.
- Be eligible for New York state PT licensure. Other professional licensures/academic degrees may be eligible for a DPT core faculty position.
- Demonstrate expertise in any of the following: graduate foundational sciences in anatomy, pathophysiology, exercise science, neuroscience, movement science, research, leadership, and business management and/or in any of the specialties of DPT practice: orthopedics, sports, cardiovascular and pulmonary, neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, oncology, women’s health, clinical electrophysiology, and wound management.
- Contribute to a collaborative, dynamic, mission driven faculty team interested in advancing physical therapist education, research and practice within the Clarkson Mission and Vision.
- Commit to leadership and professionalism as defined by APTA core values, code of ethics, standards of practice and other documents of the physical therapy profession.
- Perform technical standards in accordance with DPT student policies with or without accommodations.
