Company Overview:

As a Senior CAD Technician / Drafter on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project, you will be responsible for preparing plans to be used in engineering and construction, including highway, bridge, and tunnel components. You will support our engineering department in designing and drafting plans, roadway profiles, cross-sections, and general civil engineering/infrastructure project elements.

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of VINCI Construction, Dragados, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design-Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The project scope across a 9-mile section of the I-64 will include a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges, and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45 diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second-largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.

Principle Accountability and Responsibility:

• Prepares means and methods drawings on the construction methods, sequence of works, temporary works, formwork definition as well as lifting operations and logistic issues, including scaffolding and accesses
• Ensure that all the Requirements from Employers and any parties are met and that no objections can be provided to the permanent construction
• Ensure that the drawings are developed using the workflows set in the CADD Manual
• Ensure that those drawings are compliant with the required standards by using designated softwares (AutoCAD, 2D, 3D, and Autodesk Civil 3D)
• Work closely with other departments and engineers
• Integrate quality and safety measurements and prevent any risks in the execution methods and sequence drawings
• Report about the progress of the design development
• Circulate the drawings to the design or construction team for their further review and upon review, integrate the received comments through the issuance of reviewed drawings
• Train and mentor junior drafters
• Assist the engineering department in creating standards, libraries, and templates
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years experience as Draftsman/CAD Designer in the construction industry and in infrastructure works (roadway, bridge, tunnel, etc.).
• Minimum 2 years experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
• Minimum 1-year experience in Formwork, Work Sequences, and Construction Methods drawings

Strongly Encouraged:

• Associate or bachelor s degree in an applicable field
• Experience in infrastructure 3D Modeling such as building pads, alignment, and profile design, roadway modeling, DTM modeling, drainage, cross-sections, and quantity take-offs
• Experience with MicroStation GEOPAK SS4 or Bentley Openroads designer
• Knowledge or experience in BIM software, such as Revit, Navisworks or Synchro
