Experienced Medical Assistant

40 hours/week in a busy Gynecology office. We are looking for an energetic medical assistant with excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to be part of a close-knit, inclusive team. Ideally, experience in women's health or desire to gain such experience. Must enjoy a fast-paced supportive environment.

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Performs procedures within the scope of responsibility, as directed by the provider.
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments;
  • Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions.
  • Perform lab draws, as directed by the provider.
  • Respond to patient phone calls and return calls to patients to obtain more information for providers.
  • Stocks, preps, and cleans exam rooms in-between visits, cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment, and sets up appropriate equipment according to visit type
  • Documents in the medical record all patient activity and contact.
  • Obtains prior authorizations as required.
  • Transmits new and refills prescription orders.
  • Conducts patient follow-up, including referral paperwork and assisting patients in scheduling additional medical tests or appointments.
  • Communicates lab results as directed by the provider.
  • Communicates expected wait times to patients, providers, and front office staff
  • Participates in process and quality improvement workflows

Education and/or experience
This position requires completion of an accredited medical assistant program; one year of related experience and/or training; experience in gynecology preferred. Previous Athena or EHR experience helpful.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certification through a nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification program, such as AAMA, NCCT, CCMA preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to take and record vital signs and performed assigned lab tests.
  • Ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing with a service-oriented approach, sometimes in stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA policies.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing information and/or policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to display sensitivity to the population and patients served.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a record of reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word)
  • Ability to proficiently use Electronic Health Records.
  • Bilingual in Spanish would be a benefit

Expectations and Requirements:

Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Experience with EMR, ideally AthenaHealth. Strong people skills with the ability to provide high-level customer service. Possess excellent communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently. Able to multi-task efficiently.

Bilingual in Spanish would be a benefit

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
