We facilitate restorative justice practices that equip justice-involved residents and clients with the skills they need to become contributing members of society upon release, including treatment, education, and job training.
Mountain View Correctional Facility is accepting applications for Correctional Officers assigned as Cooks to prepare and serve 2,200 meals a day at our minimum/medium-security facility in Charleston, ME. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Some positions, based upon collateral duties/option, may require background education and/or experience in an appropriate field (e.g. food preparation; skilled trade/training experience; retail experience; supply room experience).
-AND-
- Two (2) years’ experience in food preparation, serving and/or cleanup is required.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- At time of hire: Valid Driver’s License
- Prior to attaining Permanent Status: Maine State Driver’s License
- Completion of the Basic Corrections Training Course
(organized and funded by DOC upon hire – includes mandatory exposure to chemical agents)
Responsibilities Include:
- Monitor security of assigned areas.
- Instruct and training residents in kitchen sanitation and basic food preparation.
- Prepare and serve food.
- Assist the Correctional Cook Supervisor and Food Service Manager.
This position requires exposure to chemical agents (OC Spray).

Knowledge of:
- Resident motivation and psychology.

- Correctional institution rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Large-scale meal preparation methods and techniques.
- Food service sanitation practices.

- Cook, bake, and serve meals.

- Interpret and enforce correctional center rules, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures.
- Perform various strenuous duties such as climbing stairs and/or escorting unruly residents.

- Write clearly and effectively.
- Read and perform basic math functions.
- Observe situations and behavior in detail.
- Make decisions and act quickly in emergency and dangerous situations.

- Utilize standard desktop computer technology
(e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, e-mail).
