The Cost Accountant position is responsible for gathering, preparing, and analyzing financial cost data to offer cost-efficient solutions to maximize profits and operational performance across all the different business divisions within the organization The Cost Accountant is also responsible for ensuring a high level of inventory record accuracy. This position will work closely with plant management to identify and solve for cost and operational deficiencies to promote growth and maximize profits.
Responsibilities:
- Track costs back to underlying activity.
- Apply Cost-Volume-Profit analysis for fixed and variable costs to maximize profits and drive company growth.
- Develop, document, and apply a standard process to allocate overhead costs in accordance with GAAP.
- Calculate forecasted cost-related changes, assess risk, and offer cost-efficient solutions.
- Support the organization’s profitable pricing initiatives by providing accurate, cost data analysis to key stakeholders/decision makers within the organization.
- Complete constraint analysis to understand operational bottlenecks and throughput. Work with production and plant managers on a regular basis to identify strategies to improve plant efficiencies and improve profit levels.
- Work with production, plant managers and engineers to ensure accurate labor rates used within the manufacturing process.
- Identify cost drivers within the supply chain and impact on organization’s profits.
- Measure, forecast, and analyze logistic costs (freight-in, freight-out and freight revenue) to ensure freight is properly accounted for and freight revenue and margins are sufficient to cover the organization’s freight cost.
- Ensure proper cost controls are in place.
- Complete margin analysis to identify and prevent margin erosion.
- Assist in preparing and management of budgets around all costing activity and provide variance analysis.
- Assist in audits.
- Oversee physical inventory and cycle counts within the plants to ensure accurate inventory valuation. This includes reviewing, updating, and auditing counts provided by the plant, as well as investigating inventory accuracy problems and implementing controls to prevent similar occurrences.
- Investigating, solving for, and correcting average cost and inventory capitalization costs.
- Work with the CFO, Controller, and Procurement to determine write-downs and reserves for excess, obsolete inventory, and waste.
- Responsible for the management of rebate records, rebate claim submissions, and rebate reconciliation processes to properly account for and maximize margins.
- Work with the CFO to review capital expenditure requests for accuracy, validate assumptions and assist with return on investment (ROI) calculations.
- Provide strategic advisory services to stakeholders and decisions makers within the organization by providing accurate cost structure analysis and modeling.
- Other duties as deemed applicable.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
- 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles methods, and GAAP requirements with an emphasis of cost accounting practices and principles.
- Excellent analytical skills
- Strong written and communication skills
- Proven attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Advance Excel skills required.
- Proficiency with computer software and ERPs
