Hybrid Schedule: Our NYC team has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office an average of three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding any changes to our hybrid schedule will be communicated as we continue to closely monitor COVID-19 with employee safety as our priority.
What you will be doing:
This highly creative individual will play a key role in supporting the business in the development of new products through the design of mechanisms, DFM, and the supporting of industrial design for the OXO and Hydro Flask brand.
- Leads design-engineering segment of a project, working with-in the design team.
- Work with industrial designers through the entire product development cycle.
- Design product architecture through mechanical design solutions. Create solutions that improve a products performance and user experience.
- Engineer solutions that integrate with the industrial design and are manufacturable and within project budgets.
- Generate cad models and assemblies to evaluate and conceptualize how a product will be constructed.
- Simulate use-case of products through prototyping, model-building, proof-of-concept mock-ups of mechanical subsystems or complete assemblies.
- Share and present test results and design status with design team and managers, evaluating performance, project timeline, project risks, etc.
- On time execution of project breakthroughs and work you're doing. Design within the project brief, hitting target schedules, end goals, manufacturing and cost.
- Product performance, challenges and risk is clearly understood by entire team at different stages of development.
- Engineering support of new products from t1 through pilot/first production.
- Understand, solve and prove out manufacturing methods (molding, fabrication, etc.) For each outstanding product and application.
- As required, work with manufacturing partners to refine assembly and manufacturing process to ensure manufactured product meets design specification, functional and visual criteria (nit/flow lines, sink/deformation, flash, plating/finishing, etc.).
- Communicate and work with project engineers when required to tackle and resolve manufacturing issues.
- Tool changes and part iterations are carefully considered and presented to team, justified with all risks identified and considered.
- Original product design intent is maintained through pre-production changes.
- Part or tool revisions are evaluated and carried out in a strategic way to efficiently balance cost, schedule and risk.
- All tool changes and solving methods are detailed in project folders. Assist, advice and support industrial designers during early concept development.
- Industrial design concepts must be within the scope of budget and manufacturability.
- Provide engineering feedback and instructions through cad, sketches, and notes to oxo’s project engineers and external design partners.
- Maintain CAD file structure as per guidelines. Maintain file and folder structure.
- Maintain CAD archives and project history. Update and maintain project management software (trello, basecamp, toggl).
- Project folders and history are organized. Project management tool are regularly and accurately updated.
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
- Explores creative ways to solve problems and think analytically
- Generally adept at keeping projects moving and capable of working on different projects
- Able to take constructive feedback and work collaboratively
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with others
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Industrial Design
- Portfolio of work required
- 1+ years related experience or 6 months internship experience
- Proven hands-on design engineering and new product development experience in a professional product-development environment
- Practical hands-on general workshop skills (hand-tools, power-tools, saws, drill-presses, grinders, etc.)
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Consultancy Background
- Familiarity of Solidworks
- Experience with prototyping and 3d printing
- Previous exposure to product manufacturing; plastics and injection molded part design
- Experience with Asian manufacturing
- Experience working in the consumer-goods realm
In California, Colorado, and New York City, the standard base pay range for this role is $67,033- $100,549annually/hourly. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
