Join a growing team of oilfield support professionals dedicated to making machinery on the North Slope operate at its peak. RAS Energy is rapidly in search of a competent and highly experienced Oilfield/Heavy Diesel Mechanic to service its fleet of vehicles, trailers and other heavy equipment.

A new Oilfield/Heavy Diesel Mechanic will provide mechanical support for RAS Energy. This position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule (3 weeks on / 3 weeks off). Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided; however, transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay, as well as room and meals while in Prudhoe Bay, are provided.

The ideal heavy diesel mechanic will have at least 5 years of experience in the field, with a preference given to candidates with oilfield experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repairing vehicles, replacing parts, changing oil & rotating tires, inspecting mechanical components, including diesel engines, diagnosing problems, and performing regular maintenance work on the company’s vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Running & analyzing diagnostic tests.
  • Maintaining engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, lighting, differential units, generators, tires, hydraulics and braking systems.
  • Checking and replacing batteries, fluid levels/lubrication, belts, wheel bearings, etc. on a timely and regular basis.
  • Perform routine brake inspections/adjustments according to DOT requirements.
  • Test driving vehicles to gauge performance.
  • Responding to field calls.
  • Maintaining detailed, legible and accurate maintenance and repair records and work orders.
  • Adhering to a procedural inspection checklist.
  • Maintaining and procuring parts inventory through approved vendors.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of a neat and orderly shop.
  • Maintaining a high level of safety compliance, reviewing operational and mechanical safety-related issues, and adhering to all company safety policies.
  • Prioritizing service and repair based on company needs and deadlines.
  • Communicating with construction crew and leadership team to ensure adherence to preventative vehicle maintenance policies and practices.
  • Upholding federal, state and local regulations governing the disposal of hazardous waste.

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme weather conditions. Employees are occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; extreme heat and high noise levels. Workers are required to wear personal protective equipment while on the job. The work generally requires routine walking, standing, squatting, climbing, stooping, bending, twisting, reaching and carrying items. An individual will be required to work the majority of hours in an industrial environment and will need to be able to quickly respond to a change in work demands. Applicants must have:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in heavy truck mechanics and/or equivalent education.
  • Degree or diploma in mechanical or automotive engineering and/or ASE Diesel Certification advantageous.
  • Ability to road test all company equipment. (Current, valid Class-A CDL license and able to be DOT certifiable preferred. Must be insurable by RAS Energy’s auto insurer).
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicles, diesel engine components, operational mechanisms, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to obtain North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Certification. RAS Energy can provide NSTC certification training, if needed.
  • Petrochemical, oilfield or arctic experience (preferred).
  • Superior knowledge of mechanical & maintenance tools, repair equipment and power tools.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics, including proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software.
  • Physically capable of standing long durations, working outdoors in the elements, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Effective collaborative skills, good communication and ability to work both independently and as a team.
  • Strong organizational aptitude, with ability to maintain paperwork & records, procure parts on a timely basis and meet deadlines.
  • Basic First Aid knowledge
  • Keen attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.

COMPENSATION & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Full-time, rotational position on Alaska’s North Slope (on a 3x3 rotation) with a biweekly payment schedule.
  • Salary to be determined on experience. Performance-based incentive opportunities are available.
