Dog Walker Job at The Barking Meter

The Barking Meter New York, NY 10003

The Barking Meter is seeking both full time and part time handlers in Brooklyn, Chelsea/West Village, and Uptown (Upper East/West sides). We are seeking hard-working dog lovers who have a passion for the industry and can commit to us long term, no less than one year. Due to the nature of the job (building close relationships with our clients and dogs every day) and the amount of time and effort we put into training each newcomer, a long-term commitment is incredibly important to us. Prior experience not required; Willing to fully train the right candidate.

***Candidates seeking employment for only a few months need NOT apply.***

As a member of the team, you can expect to grow into the leader of your own pack. We will train you over the course of the first few weeks to help facilitate the bond and trust between you, your dogs, and our clients. TBM is a very small company, so our staff, clients, and dogs become family. We highly encourage applicants to read about us on our website before applying: https://www.thebarkingmeter.com/about-us

Must be willing to submit to a background check and provide professional references. Applications without a personalized cover letter will not be considered. To apply, a cover letter must be included in the message body, not as an attachment. Cover letter attachments will not be opened. Including your resume is highly encouraged and will be requested if we choose to get in touch.

All applicants who receive the opportunity to begin training will start as a 1099 contractor for four to six weeks before receiving an offer of employment. This is a paid training at $16/hr for all new trainees. Once hired, depending on individual pack walking experience, the wage is raised to a minimum of $16.50/hr. Full-time handlers (35+ hours/week) are eligible for an unlimited metro card. All other employees will receive reimbursement for approved metro card usage during work hours.

Entry-level handler: Little to no pack-walking experience. $16.50/hr upon hiring.

Junior handler: A minimum of two years of pack-walking experience; day care does not apply. $17.50/hr upon hiring.

Senior handler: Over three years pack-walking experience. Wage open to negotiation.

For applicants that are particularly eager to work at TBM, we encourage you to learn about us via our website and to reach out directly via email! These applications are highly favored and are more likely to be seen. Thank you.

Available shifts and compensation: We have available shifts all days of the week. Compensation is $16.50 - $20.00/hour.

About The Barking Meter: Since the beginning, The Barking Meter has teamed up with local businesses - veterinarians, groomers, dog trainers - and through these incredible relationships, the k9 concierge took shape. In 2011, Kara's younger brother, Joey, joined the team. This sibling duo seeks to provide excellence in dog care throughout most of Manhattan and select neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
