Key Role:
Support clients across the life cycle of electrochemical systems R&D programs as an electrochemist or electrochemical device engineering technical Science, Engineering, and Technology Adviser (SETA). Apply technical subject-matter and market knowledge to guide the seeding and growth of publicly financed R&D programs. Characterize the state of a technical field, including identifying state-of-the-art technologies and promising new technological approaches. Perform technical analysis to recommend technology performance and cost targets highly challenging and on the edge of what might be achievable. Identify key technical experts across academia, industry, and national labs, performing technical outreach and facilitating the formation of new multi-disciplinary technical communities. Review highly technical proposals and support negotiations of selected projects, including advising on project plans and technical milestones for long-lead-time, complex R&D projects. Perform direct, periodic oversight of portfolio projects' technical aspects, from set-up to close-out, aiding the client in managing projects towards clear and compelling outcomes. This position will require travel within the US, when necessary to accommodate client needs and is located in Washington, DC. This position is a hybrid role with a combination of working at a Booz Allen office or client site and working remotely.
Basic Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences on research about electrochemical systems in general and batteries, fuel cells or electrolyzers
2+ years of experience in postdoctoral, academic, or industry roles related to investigation of novel electrode materials, electrolytes, and device architectures for electrochemical energy storage or generation
Experience with analytical techniques, test protocols, and diagnostic methods to elucidate the properties and behaviors of electrode materials, electrolytes, separators, membranes, and electrochemical cells
Experience with techno-economic modeling of electrochemical processes, platforms and devices including batteries, fuel cells and electrolyzers
Knowledge of fundamental processes and mechanisms operative in electrochemical systems, including primary inefficiency and degradation pathways for batteries, fuel cells and electrolyzers
Knowledge of Design or Experiments (DoE) and statistical methods
Knowledge of material selection and design parameters for electrochemical devices, including both state-of-the-art and next-generation batteries, fuel cells, and electrolyzers
Ability to obtain a security clearance
Doctorate degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering
Additional Qualifications:
Experience in a consulting environment
Experience developing state-of-the-art rechargeable battery chemistries and cells for transportation or stationary energy storage applications such as lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, or redox flow batteries
Experience with energy technology development or analyzing a diverse set of energy technologies
Ability to demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness when dealing with uncertainty and ask insightful questions that challenge traditional thinking
Ability to develop and communicate meaningful insights, significant contributions, and recommendations to address complex client issues
Possession of excellent data gathering, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Possession of excellent oral and written communication

The salary for this position will be determined based on various factors. The proposed salary range for this position in Colorado is 120,000 to 170,000.
