Engineering Technician I - FPUAnet Communications Job at Fort Pierce Utilities Authority
Salary assigned will be commensurate with experience.
Moderately difficult, professional technical engineering work responsible for the preparation of design documents for extensions, repairs, modifications and retirements of Fiber Optic and Communcation utility facilities. Reports to the FPUAnet Manager.
Must possess:
- Knowledge of design and construction practice for AE and GPON fiber optic networks
- Knowledge of local and state permitting agencies codes and regulations, including NESC.
- Knowledge of creation of fiber optic paths and calculation of loss budgets.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software and tools, Schneider Electric ArcFM software.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of engineering design and drafting.
- Ability to complete FTTX designs with minimal assistance.
- Basic knowledge of engineering formulas and principles. Basic knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
- Knowledge of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and ability to prepare MOT plans for utility construction projects.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and applicable field safety equipment.
- Ability to accurately prepare construction cost estimates and manage small to medium construction projects from inception to closeout.
Graduation from an accredited two (2) year technical school or community college with major course work in geography, cartography, engineering, computer science, or one of the physical sciences (A.A. or A.S. Degree). Minimum of two (2) years experience in Drafting or Engineering. Proficient in use of personal computer and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to pass basic Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel test with a score of at least 70%. Must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD design software and associated programs, particularly as it relates to design of utility facilities. Must have working knowledge of the latest version of AutoCAD; experience in other associated AutoCAD programs like Civil 3D and Revit are a plus. When considering new job applicants, a comparable amount of training, education and experience may be substituted in lieu of some of the minimum education qualifications.
(NOTE: There are also secondary functions which the employee will be required to perform.)Responsible for design, permitting and preparation of AutoCAD plans for utility improvements and/or modifications to the fiber and communcation systems under direct supervision. Independently develops layouts, plans, and profiles in connection with extensions, services, system improvements, and system modifications using AutoCAD products. Searches for and locates sources of information such as field survey notes, general construction plans, and roadway modification plans. Prepares permit applications for the appropriate governing authorities. Reviews work of Drafting Technicians or others.Responsible for management of small to medium fiber and communication utility construction projects.Prepares material take-offs and cost estimates. Assists with writing specifications for fiber and communication utility plans. Prepares easements and sketches for fiber and communication utility construction. Effectively uses legal descriptions and other related documents to prepare easement documentation with a high degree of accuracy and consistency. Uses GPS equipment to collect field data and design staking.Assists in field data collection and surveying of FPUA fiber assets utilizing a variety of resources and technologies such as GPS, specialized mobile GIS devices, digital imagery, and field notes.Works with GIS staff to determine modifications that need to be made in the GIS data and ensuring the data meet current standard designs, practices, and mapping standards.Performs measurements and tests in the field to verify the design and operation of engineered systems.Able to identify facilities that may be impacted by construction designs, including but not limited to water, wastewater, drainage, and communications facilities. Performs routine editing of features and attributes in the GIS, using the ESRI ArcGIS Platform and other software as required.Performs other duties as assigned.
