The Environmental Protection Specialist, Civil Engineering Unit (CEU) Oakland provides administrative, professional, and technical support required in the area of environmental planning and compliance to facilitate the overall objectives of CEUO.
Responsibilities:
- Support environmental compliance (hazardous materials management, hazardous waste management, storm water, spill protection) at USCG units throughout the AOR.
- Scope and manage environmental studies such as sediment analysis, biological surveys, and historic studies;
- Scope and manage soil remediation projects and dredging projects;
- Conduct evaluations at USCG units, to ensure units stay in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Prepare environmental analysis of USCG engineering and real property actions in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
- Support consultation with regulatory agencies such as U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, through meetings, phone calls, and written analysis
- Attend Environmental Compliance Evaluations with CEU staff, assist in identifying and resolving compliance issues at USCG units.
- Assist in scheduling hazardous waste disposals and reviewing disposal documentation.
- Assist in unit compliance such as fee payments and technical support.
- Conduct site visits, review contractor submittals for technical and legal sufficiency, and provide technical support in answering questions and resolving conflicts.
- Provide environmental compliance support for other projects as assigned.
- Regular verbal and written updates of project status will be a routine aspect of coordinating all assigned tasks.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies
- Minimum 1 year experience in the environmental field (may include internships or work during college).
- Basic familiarity with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Windows 10, MS Office, and Federal Government Contracting (Federal Acquisition Regulations.
- The individual shall have successfully completed the Federal investigation process as required in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) in the past.
