Job Role Summary

This full-time position is responsible for organizing and providing epidemiologic support to MCPHD and to collaborating organizations, including:

  • Prioritizing projects and tasks to best address the departments’ needs and fulfill the agency’s mission.
  • Identifying needs for data, communicating with external agencies in order to secure data, developing and implementing data collection protocols, managing datasets, and providing data quality assurance.
  • Designing, conducting, and interpreting statistical analyses.
  • Designing program evaluations, creating evaluation sections for grant proposals, and conducting and supervising program evaluations.
  • Preparing and delivering reports and presentations on health issues and statistics for professional and lay audiences.
  • Collaborating with MCPHD staff and other organizations to assure the success of programs and projects.
  • Identifying needs for information to inform health related decisions.
  • Creating and supporting systems that make epidemiologic and other data-based information available.

Essential Duties

Epidemiology Support: 80%

  • Conduct health surveillance for Marion County as needed. (6)
  • Maintain the data providers’ engagement by assuring that their participation in public health surveillance provides them value.
  • Meet with program staff to understand their information needs, and develop solutions to address those needs
  • Prepare and deliver reports, data visualizations, and presentations on health issues and statistics for professional and lay audiences
  • Establish data sharing agreements with external organizations.
  • Evaluate and improve the quality of the data received, and improve our understanding and interpretation of the data.
  • Attend and participate in national meetings and conferences as needed.
  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed.
  • Participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Design and oversee program evaluations.
  • Develop results summaries and reports.
  • Present results to staff, partner agencies, and the public.
  • Prepare the evaluation section of program grant applications.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in Public Health or related discipline. Concentration in Epidemiology preferred.
  • Experience with computerized data analysis and data management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience analyzing health data, such as birth and death certificate data, preferred.
  • Demonstrated basic set of programming (SAS and/or R) skills.

Working Enviornment
