SUMMARY

The Exploratorium Exhibits group develops, designs, engineers, and produces interactive exhibits, architectural elements and visitor experiences that foster active engagement and learning - for our museum on the San Francisco Bay and our local community, as well as for partner organizations around the world. This is an entry-level, part time position for persons interested in the work and behind-the-scenes activities required to build and maintain interactive exhibits. Daily job duties include inspecting and cleaning exhibits on the museum floor, reporting exhibit problems, performing exhibit environment maintenance as appropriate, and assisting with Floor Support projects in coordination with Floor Support Technicians. The position reports to the Floor Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Clean all exhibits on a regular basis under direction of Floor Manager; tasks include dusting, wiping exterior surfaces, buffing acrylic surfaces, polishing wood
• Be responsive to the museum floor and public experience by identifying and reporting exhibits that are not in good working order, presentable and/or safe
• Perform occasional minor exhibit maintenance tasks such as vacuuming or changing filters as assigned
• Assist with maintenance of the exhibit environment; tasks include installing/re-taping cord protector strips, moving exhibits, repainting walls associated with exhibits
• Assist in general shop operations, such as cleaning, stocking, and other tasks needed to keep the shop in order and running
• Perform additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong interest in the Exploratorium, education, arts, and/or science
• Mechanical aptitude coupled with a willingness to learn
• Self-motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work and stay focused in a distracting public environment
• Demonstrated reliability and attention to detail
• Available to work weekend and early morning shifts

• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs for short distances, move from place to place, bend, crouch, kneel, climb ladders and use a computer terminal as well as basic office and shop equipment
• Comfortable working outdoors for some shifts

This is a regular, part-time (20 hours per week), non-exempt, union position that includes benefits. The starting range for this role is $22.23 to $23.59.
