Family Services Worker - Residential Licensing & Special Investigations Unit Job at State of Vermont
Overview
This position resides within the central office Residential Licensing & Special Investigations Unit. The unit's workers oversee licensing and regulation of foster homes, child placing agencies for foster care and adoption, residential treatment programs, and Commissioner designated shelters while also responding to child abuse allegations within these settings and within the additional settings of child care and schools. This position is home based and location of residence must align with primary coverage area and needs of the unit. This position will primarily cover the St. Johnsbury, Newport and Morrisville districts but there is an expectation of regular statewide travel based needs of the unit. Duties include a broad range of social work activities. The candidate can expect to engage in Chapter 49 child safety interventions, complete home studies for the Interstate Compact for Placement of Children, assess and license general care and kinship foster care homes, perform regulatory interventions in regulated facilities, and maintain an ongoing and collaborative relationship with Family Services district office staff and other state departmental agencies.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in a variety of setting ranging from departmental offices to client homes to courtrooms. Considerable field travel is required, for which private means of transportation must be available. Crisis situations may arise at any hour and may require evening or weekend responses. Incumbents predictably encounter high levels of stress and emotional situations, strong differences of opinion, and potentially exposure to physical danger. Class incumbents may be required to be on available or standby status during night, weekend, and holiday hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in social work.
OR
Bachelor's degree AND eighteen (18) months of human services casework, including at least six months with a child or youth services caseload where duties included direct responsibility for client intake, assessment, plan development, monitoring, service procurement, and case closure in a formal human services delivery system.
OR
Satisfactory completion of 12 to 18 months experience as a Family Services Worker trainee in DCF.
