Job Summary
Faculty will instruct a diverse population of students in a classroom, online, lab or activity class setting; develop written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; design curriculum or programs to meet student needs; evaluate knowledge of subject matter taught and monitor students’ scholastic records; prepare and grade exams; develop and enhance knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field; maintain office hours to assist and advise students; participate actively in department and college functions.
Essential Functions
- Develops course syllabi and materials which include learning centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; creates instructional materials and develops curriculum that demonstrates innovation in teaching by focusing on student learning, retention and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery of courses; instructs in both traditional and non-traditional settings such as Learning Communities, short term courses, hybrid and on-line courses; utilizes college and departmental assessment tools; participates in continuous evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning
- Assists and responds to problems/requests from students during in-person office hours, virtual office hours and electronic communication; serves on collaborative work teams with faculty, staff, administration and community stakeholders, keeps Department hours of accountability
- Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, seminars, workshops and active within the community; engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide, campus and departmental activities including department meetings, committees and projects
Minimum Qualifications
- Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor’s degree OR
- A Master’s degree in the teaching field OR
- A Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
- Upper division courses are Junior and Senior level courses in obtaining a Bachelors’ degree OR
- A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught AND
- EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community Colleges or equivalent must be completed within two (2) years of date of hire
Desired Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the community college level
- Experience as an officer (Captain or above) in a professional fire department
- International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certified fire instructor
- Experience with hazardous materials training or hazmat operations
- Current AZ or National Registry certification at EMT level or above
Special Working Conditions
- Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
- Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense
- Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
- May require numerous evenings or weekends
- May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
- May be required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs
