Pearl River Technologies is seeking an experienced and highly capable Systems/Integration Engineer to fulfill the role of Human Space Flight (HSF) Communications Services Engineer on the Flight Dynamics Support Services III (FDSS-III) contract at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Spaceflight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland.


Specific areas of support will include:

  • Identify, validate and implement solutions to assure successful support of various crewed and robotic missions operated by NASA, International Partners, and commercial entities fulfilling objective in low-earth and lunar orbits.
  • Provide support in the acquisition, maintenance, and protection of resources in order to ensure that space communications systems can operate to their fullest capacity.
  • Author, review and extract critical information from Requirements Documents, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Test Plans, Verification Matrices, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and other technical documentation.
  • Participate in Systems requirements reviews, Preliminary & Critical Design Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings and peer reviews.
  • Author and refine operations processes through rigorous peer and external reviews.
  • Perform anomaly analysis and implement corrective actions where needed.
  • Support HSF objectives at national / international working group meetings and reviews.
  • Resolve usage problems and promote the efficient use of the NASA resources.
  • Participate in national and international groups to promote HSF customers interests.
  • Serve as a member and advisor in various working groups and advisory panels of national and international significance as necessary to assure mission success.
  • Coordinate across NASA centers, organizations and internal group elements.
  • Some travel may be required. Potential off-hours work may be required when working with International Partners

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s of Science (Required) or a Master’s of Science (Desired) from an accredited institution in engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field.
  • Candidate must have at least 5 years (Required) to 10 years (Desired) of progressive experience with satellite mission operations and be familiar with a minimum of one of the following specialties: spacecraft systems, ground systems, mission control center interfaces, mission planning, mission operations, or certification processes.
  • Prior flight operations experience on a NASA mission is preferred.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of communication systems such as digital modulation, spread spectrum signals, signal detection, forward error correction, interference analysis, baseband filtering, and data formatting and packetizing.
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor that enhances productivity, promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Possess an understanding and application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in a segment of Satellite Communications, such as Space to Ground, baseband processing, or other specialty.
  • Familiar with CCSDS standards.
  • Ability to formulate and perform analysis choosing from available tools such as Matlab, STK, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills along with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment virtually as well as in-person.
  • Ability to conduct planning activities and negotiate satellite network coordination agreements.
  • Ability to perform fault isolation and recovery to reported anomalies, independently developing solutions and then presenting a comprehensive review for implementation.
  • Experience writing and maintaining requirement documentation.

Desired Skills & Knowledge

  • The ability to perform, review and validate Radio Frequency interference & compatibility analysis, Power Flux Density analysis or Spectral analysis for Space based communication systems
  • Verify the performance of Radio Frequency (RF) communication links and creating link budgets using analytical methods or by applying analysis to simulation tools.

Security Clearance Requirements

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the Secret (Required) or Top Secret (Desired) level.
