Summary:

The Office of the Vice President for Research is in search of an IACUC Assistant Director to join the Research Administration Team.

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Assistant Director is responsible for the daily activities of the IACUC staff, and for the overall supervision of the protocol review and compliance processes, to ensure that animal research is conducted per federal regulations and IACUC university policies. Works with Temple University Principal Investigators (PIs) and research personnel to assist with the IACUC protocol submission process and to ensure completeness of protocol submissions. In addition, the Assistant Director works with PIs and research staff to develop procedures to ensure compliance with federal regulations, and to enhance animal welfare. Directs, coordinates, and supervises daily activities of the IACUC department, such as, implementing systems and procedures, maintaining protocol submission records, managing office operations, preparing compliance and audit reports for internal and external stakeholders, compiling financial analyses for budgetary purposes, organizing conferences, and providing oversight of IACUC sponsored programs.

Essential Functions:

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 4 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education/experience; experience with animal care, demonstrated knowledge of federal/state laws and AAALAC policies governing animal research. Preferred: Master's degree in a related field. AALAS certification at a LAT (Laboratory Animal Technician) or higher level. Certified Veterinary Technician/Technologist. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated knowledge of university animal research protocols, post approval monitoring and IACUC procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to IACUC and animal welfare.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of principles of ethics in animal research, IACUC regulatory requirement, the Animal Welfare Act and/or Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of animal dosing, blood collection techniques, drug administration, aseptic techniques and recognition of normal animal behavior and associated handling methods.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with spreadsheet and database software programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituent population.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
